A recent fan-made remaster of Call of Duty: Black Ops demonstrates why the game should make a comeback. The recent remaster of Modern Warfare 2 (2009) made plenty of fans excited to see the game brought to life in a new resolution. Yet the Black Ops side of the franchise has seen little to no talk of getting similarly revived.
A video made by the YouTube channel Hudson, who returned in Black Ops Cold War, shows how realistic the title could look when compared to that recent addition to the series. TeaserPlay included the scene of Reznov being barely lit by a campfire, making him look even more intimidating with updated graphics as he seeks revenge.
Black Ops Remastered Video Is A Vibrant Blast From The Past
Everything about this remaster seems to hit every note of what made the original Black Ops so iconic, and it serves as an ideal celebration of the game's 12th anniversary, as well as a strong case for its return to modern consoles. However, the original Modern Warfare trilogy already has two games remastered, which makes it likely that Modern Warfare 3 will be the next remaster before Activision thinks of tackling the Black Ops series with the same treatment. With Modern Warfare 2 (2022) and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 replacing Warzone 1.0, it'll be some time before the next game in the franchise is announced. This faithful attempt by TeaserPlay to make the 2010 classic look as good as possible will likely inspire much more heightened demand among fans for its return.
A remaster of Black Ops by Treyarch would likely be welcomed by fans, but the game's assets would need some additional work aside from a simple resolution increase. Treyarch could also put new easter eggs in the game that could tie the title into Cold War's campaign, making the link to each story a bit stronger than before. The series' composer Jack Wall could return, and apply his creativity to the original soundtrack, similar to how he wrote the score for Cold War.
While this is more of a demonstration of what can be done to the game with mods, an official remaster of Black Ops hasn't been denied as a possibility by Activision. The publisher could be waiting for the 15th anniversary of the title to approach, as developer Treyarch learns to bring out more exciting graphics from the new console generation. For now, fans will have to rely on the same tricks TeaserPlay used to give Call of Duty: Black Ops a more realistic and colorful appearance.
