Warning: Contains Spoilers for Bloodline: Daughter of Blade #1!Brielle Brooks, daughter of the famous Blade, has revealed that she has the same powers as her father...but with some pretty huge drawbacks. After making her debut in last year's Free Comic Book Day issue of Avengers/X-Men #1, Brielle (aka Bloodline) has finally landed a series of her own to prove her worth to fans. She has a lot to live up to given that she's related to the most famous vampire killer in the Marvel Universe, but her first issue has shown that she has potential to become a new fan-favorite. She's incredibly funny and knows how to take on vampires when need-be. In fact, Blade's daughter Bloodline seems to be a very worthy successor to her father.

Just like Blade, Brielle has super strength and speed to combat her prey. She's also capable of having night vision to make the hunt easier for her. She's even able to walk outside in broad daylight without succumbing to the pain of the sun's rays like other vampires. In short, she's taken after her dad and essentially become part of the next generation of daywalkers. However, this doesn't mean that she's totally in tune with her new abilities. As a matter of fact, she's at a massive disadvantage that will certainly require Blade to help her hone her skills and learn how to adjust herself to become one of the best vampire hunters in her own way.

In Bloodline: Daughter of Blade #1 by Danny Lore and Karen S. Darboe, Brielle reveals that her powers aren't exactly reliable. In fact, they appear to come at random. When she enters a decrepit house to hunt some vampires, she mentions her previous night out granted her night vision. Now, she doesn't have it. In fact, she begins to "wonder if these powers have a pattern or if it's all random." She notes that her super strength and speed are pretty consistent, but not enough so that she can rely on them. When she's attacked by a mysterious figure, she actually seems overjoyed when she realizes that she has "better reflexes," meaning she didn't plan on them and is just rolling with the punches. Unlike her father Blade, her powers seem to be appearing at random and there's no guarantee that what she's given that night will be helpful when she takes on a more powerful vampire species twice her size.

What's even worse for her, though, is that these abilities only come at night. During the day, she has no choice but to play the role of Brielle Brooks, high school student. She's unable to take on any threats that come her way during the day at all and must focus on other methods to avoid danger. She's still practiced in hand-to-hand combat as Marvel's take on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but without her vampire abilities, going into a dark tunnel during the day is out of the question for her. Of course, this could all be temporary given the next issue hints that she will begin to develop a taste for blood as the vampire side of her family begins to take hold. Until changes happen, though, Brielle is in for a rough time against the baddies when the sun comes up.

What's interesting to note though is that this won't be forever. In fact, Brielle learning to better use her powers is setting up to be the arc for her first adventure. Plus, with Blade on the way to help Bloodline learn her new abilities and down his sword to her, she's bound to come to with her strengths and weaknesses to reach her full potential. Blade's daughter has a lot to learn in the coming months, but if Brielle Brooks can come to with the differences she has from her dad, her shared abilities could make her one of Marvel's next big heroes.
