2025 just got another must-play game, with it currently having a Metacritic score of 92, making it (as of this writing) the best-reviewed game of the year so far. There have been some pretty big games this year so far, with large titles like Monster Hunter Wilds, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Split Fiction all topping the critical and commercial charts, but a smaller indie title called Blue Prince has quickly taken the internet and reviewers by storm.
Blue Prince was developed by Dogubomb — the studio's first game — and published by Raw Fury. Shockingly and out of the blue, it shot to the top on Metacritic, based on 23 current reviews, achieving "universal acclaim" ahead of its April 10 release date. This unique take on the roguelike genre sees players explore a manor with shifting rooms, solving mysteries and completing puzzles. The game will be available on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, and you might be even happier about these glowing reviews if you are a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game subscriber.
What Is Blue Prince & What Are Critics Saying?
An Addictive, Unique Puzzle Rouge-Like
Blue Prince sees players take the role of a mysterious character who is the heir to Mt. Holly, a mansion whose rooms, puzzles, and cryptic secrets change as the protagonist drafts the next room in the mansion and attempts to make his way to the rumored Room 46. The game is a roguelike, similar to games like Hades or Returnal, with the mansion resetting at the end of each day and progress resetting, except for permanent upgrades to your estate blueprint. Distinguishing itself from other games in the roguelike genre, the game features no combat and is strictly puzzles and exploration.

One Of Metacritic's Highest-Rated Games Of 2024 Is A Hidden Gem You Haven't Heard Of
Despite its potential for countless hours of fun with friends or alone, this reasonably priced indie game didn't receive the popularity it deserved.
Critics were thrilled with the game, with particular praise aimed towards the game's unique take on the genre as well as the clever puzzles and addictive gameplay loop. Checkpoint Gaming praised the mysterious nature of the game, saying: "I cannot overstate how much Blue Prince blew me away. With an addicting gameplay loop and an expansive mystery that appears bottomless, it’s the kind of game that makes you want to nuke your memory of playing it so that you can experience it all over again."
Why You Should Play Blue Prince
Tons Of Content, A Unique Premise, And It's Free For A Lot Of People
Players will have their puzzle-solving abilities put to the test in Blue Prince. Choosing which room to draft next upon completion of one room opens up a lot of pathways, decision-making, and a mysterious calling of what could be behind the next door. With its roguelike nature, Blue Prince game is highly replayable, and players will have to complete several runs to finish it. Even after the credits roll, there will still be a lot to discover in Mt. Holly.
Blue Prince is a game that is best experienced by knowing as little as possible, and even if that sounds too vague to drop money on, Blue Prince is free for Xbox Game and PlayStation Plus subscribers. There is little reason not to try the game out if you are already subscribed to either of those services, and according to these high review scores, you are going to want to check out Blue Prince on day one.
