Not long after season 2 of Bridgerton came out, Netflix dropped a major spoiler for season 3. In the season of Bridgerton—which is filming this summer—the story will revolve around Colin Bridgerton's love story with Penelope Featherington.
With fans excited about the next love story, fans on Reddit shared all of their favorite parts of seasons 1 and 2 thus far. And while there are plenty of agreed-upon popular opinions, there are also a few hot takes that have raised a few eyebrows...
Lady Whistledown's Sales Should Have Dropped In Season 2
Penelope as Lady Whistledown had some of the best quotes in Bridgerton because of the secrets she spilled and the outlook she had on the ton. However, since she didn't reveal too much new information in season 2, ChaltaHaiShellBRight told Reddit that her sales should have dropped instead of increased.
"[Lady Whistledown] didn't do her usual big investigative journalism pieces because maybe she's distracted by her anxiety about being found out," they wrote. "She didn't even have a clue about Kanthony. The sales should've dropped."
Enjoying The Featheringtons
Funny enough, Redditor areatha_salmon said their hot take was "Mines that I enjoyed the Featheringtons." While there was nothing wrong with the Featheringtons per se, the popular opinion was that they were beneath the Bridgertons.
Aside from not having the same kind of money or lavish lifestyle the Bridgertons had, the Featheringtons, in general, were more conniving. The Featherington family tree wasn't as complex as the Bridgertons but it was easy to look down on the Featheringtons because of the tricks they pulled behind closed doors. Between Portia and Penelope, they weren't truthful.
Eloise Was A Worse Friend Than Penelope
Eloise and Penelope had some of the best friendship moments in Bridgerton. But at the same time, there's a lot these two kept from each other. Penelope never told Eloise that she was exposing her family's secrets as Lady Whistledown or that she was in love with Eloise's brother, Colin.
Likewise, Eloise wasn't always honest with Penelope about what she was doing politically or with her new friend Theo. Nevertheless, the popular opinion was that Penelope was worse than Eloise in the friendship department. But in a hot take, ginns32 wrote, "I like Pen. I did not like Eloise this season and think she's a bad friend." They elaborated that they found Eloise selfish in comparison to Penelope.
Not A Fan Of The Theo And Eloise Relationship
Eloise Bidgerton is a feminist icon who found her match with Theo, a man who also believed in civil rights. From the start, Eloise was against rushing a marriage just for the sake of social convention. She'd rather focus on studies than a relationship.
So when Eloise did have feelings for someone, it was endearing that she allowed herself to be so open with her heart. However, in a hot take, Gretyfety wrote, "My hot take is that I don’t like Theo as a romantic interest for Eloise. They’d make great platonic friends." There's always a chance that Eloise and Theo could remain friends but many liked their crush on each other.
Anthony And Kate's Romance Felt "Forced"
There were plenty of quotes from Bridgerton that made fans swoon — especially between Anthony and Kate in season 2. Their slow burn of a relationship had viewers glued to their screens.
Xgreenandgrayx felt differently about "Kanthony's" romance, however. They wrote, "I thought all but the last two episodes were terrible. Anthony and Kate’s romance felt so forced it was laughable. They had great chemistry in the end but their journey there made zero sense."
Violet Was Cruel To Anthony
As the matriarch of the family and the mother of eight children, Violet was a doting mother but knew she had a serious mission on her hands to make sure her family succeeded without her husband around. She adored her children but she was hard on them at times, as any mother would be.
Redditor Ok-Plankton-7369's hot take was that Violet was "unnecessarily cruel to Anthony." They continued, "She is constantly comparing him to his father in order to manipulate him and never gives him any reassurances about how well he is doing as head of the household to the point he thinks she hates him." While their opinion is respected, the majority of fans didn't think Violet loathed her son for manipulation.
Is Lady Danbury Annoying?
Lady Danbury doesn't have a high rank or title in Bridgerton but her opinion carried weight with the Bridgertons and even the queen. Lady Danbury is well-connected, all-knowing, and puts those around her in the right direction. In season 1, she did this with the duke, and in season 2 she did this with the Sharmas.
Regardless of the badass that Lady Danbury was, Prestegious_Mud1662 found her unlikable. "I found Lady Danbury very annoying and unlikeable this season," they wrote. This could be in reference to Lady Danbury keeping the Sharmas secret from the Bridgertons throughout season 2.
Season 2 Had A Lack Of Sexiness
Aside from the main characters' storylines, Bridgerton is known for its romantic quotes on love. The writing is naturally poetic. Season 2 didn't have as many sex scenes as season 1 because Kate and Anthony's love for each other were prohibited.
But just because they didn't have sex in every scene didn't mean the show lacked sexiness. Nevertheless, that's one Redditor's hot take. "Was anyone else a bit disappointed by the lack of sexy in this season?" They continued saying without the sex scenes, "it just doesn't stand out from other regency content I've seen."
The Bridgerton Clan Should Have Been More ive Of Anthony
With eight children, a doting mother, and an entire staff taking care of everything, the Bridgertons had more than anyone in this era could ask for. 27Shawblvd, however, felt like Anthony didn't have from his family in season 2.
"I didn't think the Bridgerton siblings showed Anthony any when Edwina ran out on him. They could tell he was distraught, but other than Benedict who offered him a flask, the rest barely did anything." Many fans were quick to point out that Anthony's siblings knew he wasn't in love with Edwina and weren't concerned with his feelings because of that fact alone.
Bridgerton's Second Season Lost Its Joy
It's an unpopular opinion to not like season 2 of Bridgerton. After moving on from Daphne's tale, the series shared Anthony's story beautifully. For many, it was just as exciting as season 1.
Mediafries, however, felt like season 2 lost its joy. Because season 2 was slower and darker than season 2, they felt it was "nowhere near as fun." They continued saying, 'Without that fun, that joy, Bridgerton is just another Regency drama." This is a hot take because the difference in storytelling made it so special for Anthony and Kate.
