In comments to a Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival. The legendary singer, who produced the original show and the spinoff Angel via Sandollar Productions, shared that there's still work being done to “revamp Buffy.” Parton did not elaborate further, and it's unclear if she's referring to the stalled Owusu-Breen project or something else. Her quote is below:
“They’re still working on that. They’re thinking about bringing it back and revamping it.”
The live-action reboot is separate from Slayers, a recent audio drama that reunited some of the cast to tell a multiverse story.
Why A Direct Buffy Spinoff Would Be Better Than A Reboot
Even without the accusations of a toxic work environment made against Whedon by several Buffy actors and crew , the planned 2018 reboot immediately got off to a bumpy start. It wasn't entirely clear whether the new version would feature a different actor in the titular role or if it would exist in the same universe as the original. Plot details never materialized, nor did any casting reports, and it counts as the second time that a Buffy-related project struggled to gain momentum. The first attempt, a 2010 movie reboot rumored to star Vanessa Hudgens, never moved forward.
The best ideas on how to continue Buffy might have already been pitched while the seminal series was still airing and shortly after it ended in 2003. A prequel series, tentatively titled Ripper, centered on the dark younger years of Rupert Giles, was among the possibilities. At one point, it was reportedly being considered to air on the BBC. An even more high-profile spinoff focused on Faith was also floated, although actor Eliza Dushku ed on it partly because she wanted to try a different role after playing Faith for several years.

Every Failed Buffy The Vampire Slayer Spin-Off (& Why They Didn't Happen)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer may have only had one proper spin-off, but there were several more projects in the works to expand the Buffyverse.
An animated series, more adult in tone and distinctive in its art, could also have appeal in of extending the franchise. Any one of these ideas would not fall into the reboot trend of bringing back truly classic shows to a dishearteningly muted response, as has been the case with Frasier and Melrose Place. Instead, like the successful Angel, it would turn the attention to a familiar character. But in any case, for whatever reason, reviving Buffy the Vampire Slayer has proved tricky for Hollywood.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel are available to stream on Hulu.
