new battle-royale mode Warzone would be coming to Modern Warfare, and everyone expected today's reveal to feature news to that effect. Instead, the virtual pets are available now on the in-game store.
Many fans were excited by the prospects that Warzone would bring to the table. After the success of Black Ops 4's Blackout mode, Warzone was expected to shake up the formula considerably. Blackout became stale relatively fast after players realized that it didn't add much to the battle royale genre. Many assumed that Modern Warfare would drastically improve upon its predecessors mistakes. To add to fuel to the fire of rumors, Activision demanded that Reddit release the names of s who were responsible for Warzone leaks. This led further credence to the rumors surrounding Warzone.
Earlier today on Twitter, Call of Duty announced that virtual pets called Tomogunchis would be available in the game starting immediately. These virtual creatures are obviously inspired by Tamagotchi, which is evident by both the name and the fact that the creatures exist inside a watch worn on operator's wrists. Players will be able to feed and level up their Tomogunchi by killing enemies and completing mission objectives in multiplayer mode. One , @ANG3X6_, summed up the majority of fan's opinions by responding to the official announcement with "This is definitely better and more interesting than Warzone, thank you Call of Duty, very cool!"
While these virtual figures may seem adorable to some, most fans are understandably outraged by this decision. With the legal action taken by Activision against Reddit leakers, it seemed all but an inevitability that Modern Warfare Warzone would be getting an announcement soon. Fans became even more convinced after players encountered evidence that Warzone would announce today. While the Tomogunchi project has been in development for a long time, many fans had forgotten it was coming and were confused as to why this, not Warzone, was announced.
For those fans who enjoy keeping track of stats and playing with virtual pets, the Tomogunchi is a dream come true. Keeping track of their pet's health will take many people back to the days of playing with their Tamagotchis. Most Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans are just confused by this development, because instead of getting a fun new game mode, Activision is asking them to pay for a silly cosmetic item that can die if they don't play very well. At this point in time there doesn't seem to be an announcement for Warzone coming, but for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's sake, hopefully one comes soon.
