Steve Rogers isn’t the only character that the series plans to explore. Schiti’s character designs were released along with the announcement of the new comic series, showing that Tony Stark, Thaddeus Ross, and Reed Richards will also play a role. According to Marvel's press release, classic Marvel villain Doctor Doom is set to act as Steve’s main nemesis upon his return to the 1960s.

"While Captain America slumbered in ice, the world changed—for better and for worse. He awakens to a reality where battles are fought in the shadows through secrets and subterfuge, and villains aren’t so easy to identify. When a fledgling dictator named Victor Von Doom conquers Latveria, Steve faces a critical decision: adapt to a new kind of warfare, or forge his own path? And what will the choice he makes in the past mean for his future?"

The opportunity to see a young Doctor Doom at the start of his reign in Latveria versus a freshly defrosted Captain America is surely going to have fans on the edge of their seats.

Chip Zdarsky & Valerio Schiti Are As Excited As Fans Are

Steve Rogers’ time before he ed the Avengers has not been explored in the comics, making the Captain America all the more exciting. Considering that the series will span from the 1960s to present day, there is an opportunity to dig into who Steve Rogers is and how his background impacted the man he becomes in 2025. Zdarsky noted in the Marvel press release that Steve’s age plays an important part, as he is only in his late twenties in the time period when Captain America starts.

Chip Zdarsky is perhaps best known for his Daredevil run, which spanned from 2019 to 2021 and earned him an Eisner Award nomination and an irreplaceable place in Daredevil canon alongside iconic writers like Frank Miller, Ed Brubaker, and Charles Soule. In comparing the Captain America to Daredevil, Zdarsky said:

I’ve been approaching this title the way I approached my run on DAREDEVIL (2019), really trying to get in Cap’s head with a grounded, human look at who he is in this new world. Steve Rogers is the best of us, and I want that to come through on every page.

Valerio Schiti most recently worked on G.O.D.S. and Avengers. If the sneak peek of his artwork along with Zdarsky’s writing is anything to go by, Captain America is going to be stunning in both illustration and script.
