Mike Flanagan's Carrie series will stream on Prime Video.

Now, Deadline has announced the cast for Carrie. Summer Howell (Curse of Chucky) will play Carrie White. The other cast includes Matthew Lillard (The Life of Chuck) as Principal Grayle, Samantha Sloyan (The Fall of the House of Usher) as Margaret White, Siena Agudong (The 4:30 Movie) as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton (Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce) as Chris Hargensen, Thalia Dudek (Doctor Who) as Emaline, Amber Midthunder (Prey) as Miss Desjardin, Josie Totah (The Buccaneers) as Tina, Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) as Billy, and Joel Oulette (Sullivan’s Crossing) as Tommy.

What This Means For Carrie

Flanagan Is Working With Some Past Collaborators

Flanagan has established himself as a major name when it comes to adapting King's work. He previously directed Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep. He also wrote and directed the Life of Chuck and is working on a Dark Tower adaptation. He often casts many of the same performers in projects, and Carrie is no different. Both Lillard and Sloyan are coming off of The Life of Chuck, and Sloyan has a long history with Flanagan. The pair worked together on Hush, The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher.

Mike Flanagan's Update Completely Changes My Mind About His New Stephen King Remake, Making Me Far More Excited

Mike Flanagan's Carrie remake had me incredibly skeptical at first, but the showrunner's recent comments have made me a lot more excited.

Sloyan's role as Margaret White is an exciting casting choice. Carrie's mother is a religious zealot who emotionally and physically abuses her daughter. Sloyan has played unhinged characters before in Flanagan projects, most notably in The Fall of the House of Usher, so it can be expected that she will deliver a menacing performance as Margaret White.

Our Take On The Carrie Casting

The Show Could Make For A Timely Update

Sissy Spacek covered in blood in Carrie

Flanagan is going to make changes to Carrie in a way that updates it for modern times. The cast includes actors who have given excellent performances in the past few years, like Agudong and Midthunder. One character, Emaline, is not in the novel, so it will be interesting to see what Dudek's role will be. While the 1976 movie is still a very entertaining watch, and helped put King on the map, it plays like a perfect time capsule for when it was released. Especially with Flanagan's exceptional track record adapting King, Carrie should be a show to check out.
