The Gimmighoul is a new crossover pocket monster in Pokémon GO that is being introduced in celebration of the highly anticipated release of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Similar to Burmy or Shellos, Gimmighoul is a Ghost-type Pokémon that possess two distinct forms: Roaming Form and Chest Form. As its name implies, Chest Form Gimmighoul is a creature that hides away within a sizeable red chest full of mysterious coins. On the other hand, Roaming Form Gimmighoul is not restricted to the interior of a chest but instead is able to roam about on its two humanoid legs. Additionally, this form carries a coin that it holds with its hands or bears on its back.
To catch Roaming Form Gimmighoul in Pokémon GO, Trainers must purchase a copy of Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet and wait until 2023. After an update that will take place next year, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be capable of linking to Pokémon GO via the Pokémon HOME app. Keep in mind that Trainers will not be able to directly send Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet to Pokémon GO or vice versa, as the process must occur through the HOME app.
Catching Gimmighoul in Pokémon GO
While little information is known about how Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will transfer the Roaming Form Gimmighoul to Pokémon GO, the YouTube trailer for the Ghost-type pocket monster has revealed lore regarding how the creature compels Trainers to collect 999 coins. This activity is similar to the Gold PokéStops and mysterious coins that have appeared in Pokémon GO, which is perhaps hinting at how Trainers are to catch these elusive critters. Nevertheless, players can be certain that, as of November 2022, only the Roaming Form Gimmighoul has a scheduled debut in Pokémon GO that will happen in 2023. As for the Chest Form, there have yet to be any announcements regarding this form's appearance in the AR world.
Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any indication that those who do not own Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet will be able to participate in the crossover event bringing Roaming Form Gimmighoul to Pokémon GO in 2023. Of course, this does not mean that GO fans will never be able to catch a Gimmighoul, but it is quite likely that Scarlet and Violet fans will receive precedence, as they are the ones ing the latest title in the franchise. Whatever the case, Scarlet and Violet owners will need to train their coin-collecting skills to get ready for the potential effort required to bring their penny-pinching Ghost-type pocket monster into Pokémon GO.
