Famed competitor Wes Bergmann from Real World: Austin cast member (and Johnny Bananas’ BFF) made his Challenge debut on the Fresh Meat season in 2006, and since then he’s made it to five finals, won two seasons, and dominated in countless eliminations. Wes has been a mainstay on The Challenge, and there are many viewers who feel a season isn’t complete without the ginger powerhouse competing.
The last fans saw of Wes, he was competing on Double Agents, and it was probably one of his most disappointing seasons to date. When he wasn’t having a canister chucked at his face by castmate CT Tamburello, Wes’ usually-effective politicking fell flat. Wes was ultimately sent home by his friend Devin Walker just three episodes into the show. Wes was absent from the following season, Spies, Lies & Allies, but was recently announced as one of the cast on season 3 of the popular spin-off, All Stars. Anticipation is high for Wes’ return to The Challenge franchise, but many viewers wonder what he was up to during his break from the competition.
Wes has always been a hustler, and professionally he hasn’t slowed down while he was taking time off from The Challenge. In February, Celebrity Sleepover. In a clip from the episode that Wes shared recently, the two competitors appeared to have a fun time together eating disgusting foods and playing truth or dare in their favorite pajamas.
However, Wes’ personal life has seen a lot more ups and downs since viewers last saw him on Double Agents. Wes is still happily married to his wife Amanda Hornick, and the couple have been enjoying traveling together, which included a trip to Los Cabos, Mexico last year. But things took a turn for the worse in March of 2021 when Wes had to say goodby to his beloved dog Bootstrap. In the Challenge star said, “he was my best friend, my co-founder, my son, and the wingman that brought me together with my wife.” It was a truly devastating loss for Wes, who had formed a special bond with Bootstrap. However, as Wes’ heart began to heal, he decided to adopt a new puppy, a Bernadoodle named Penny who Wes describes as “really stinkin’ cute.”
Though life hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for Wes since viewers last saw him on The Challenge, he seems eager to get back to the competition on All Stars 3. Wes has gotten himself into peak physical shape, and his castmates are going to have their work cut out for them if them want to come out ahead of the two-time champion. Given his extensive experience on the show and dedication to staying in shape off the show, it’s likely Wes will go far on All Stars 3, and his competitors had better step their game up.
