This summer, Clueless returns to theaters for its 30th anniversary celebration. This follows the successful return to theaters of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, and studios have to hope there is as much interest in this classic comedy to add some big numbers to its already decent box office totals. Clueless is a 1990s cult classic film with an 81% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Fathom Entertainment has announced that it will bring Clueless back to theaters for two days only this summer on June 28-29. The movie stars Alicia Silverstone in her breakout role as Cher Horowitz, a fashion-obsessed high school student in a story inspired by Jane Austen's Emma. This is all part of a summer celebration of Clueless during its 30th anniversary. Tickets are available through Fathom Entertainment.
Before its return to theaters, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures plans a special June 7 screening at the Academy Museum. This event sees Silverstone, director Amy Heckerling, costume designer Mona May, casting director Marcia Ross, and actors Elisa Donovan and Breckin Meyer all in attendance. This is part of an overarching event called Teen Movie Madness!
What Clueless Returning To Theaters Means
The Alicia Silverstone Movie Remains Still Beloved Today
Bringing Clueless back to theaters is a great chance for older fans to relive what they love so much about the classic comedy. Amy Heckerling, who had earlier success with the high school movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High, brought this story about a stylish high school student who seems, as the title suggests, clueless about the effects of her actions. However, Cher remains set on helping other people with her self-perceived wisdom, both in life and style. The press release describes the movie as follows:
Inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma, writer/director Amy Heckerling’s beloved film stars Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz, a rich, popular, and exceedingly stylish high school student who loves helping others with her wisdom on dating, fashion and looking good. But when it comes to matters of the heart, she's…clueless. The film also boasts a sensational ensemble cast including Paul Rudd, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, Stacey Dash, Jeremy Sisto, Breckin Meyer, Elisa Donovan, and Wallace Shawn.
This month also includes an extended release of Clueless the Musical in London's West End. London scheduled "Clueless Week" from June 21 through June 23, with several events, including a KT Tunstall concert. In the United States, Beverly Hills Mayor Sharona R. Nazarian named July 19 as "Clueless Day" and scheduled a street festival to celebrate the film's iconic place in cinema history. UMe has also re-released the soundtrack for the movie, which includes songs by Radiohead, The Muffs, Cracker, Counting Crows, Luscious Jackson, World Party, Coolio, the Beastie Boys, and more.
Our Take On Clueless Returning To Theaters
The Cult Classic Can Earn A New Generation Of Fans
The return of Clueless is a reason for kids of the 1990s to celebrate. It also offers a chance for a new generation of fans to discover this weird and quirky comedy. There are some things that have not aged gracefully about the film, not the least of which was Cher's relationship with her stepbrother, Josh. However, most of the comedy is pure and safe. It also offers a look at several actors early in their careers, including Paul Rudd, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, and Stacey Dash.

How Old Cher & Josh Are In Clueless
Clueless saw Cher and Josh slowly but surely falling for each other, but how old were they throughout the movie? Let's take a look.
This also gives the movie a real chance to add some money to its box office. The original run was a success, and Clueless sits at $88 million on a $12 million budget. However, as Coraline showed when it was re-released, a new audience could drastically increase that. That animated film made $30.6 million in its re-release, and a similar take could push Clueless over the $100 million mark, a feat that would be well-deserved for the comedy classic.
