There may be many movies about makeovers, but Clueless takes the cake when it comes to a classic, hilarious, and intelligent film. Alicia Silverstone's broke out into Hollywood as Cher Horowitz, the stylish Beverly Hills teen who is obsessed with her wardrobe, matchmaking, and trying to make Tai (Brittany Murphy) into a "better" person. Of course, Cher is the one who has to learn a lesson, and she definitely changes a lot by the time the credits roll.
If Clueless was rebooted in 2020, the clothes would still be fabulous, and it's fun to think about which actors would be cast in the iconic and beloved roles of Cher, her friends, family, and teachers.
Elton: Shia LaBeouf
Played by Jeremy Sisto, Elton isn't the nicest character in Clueless by any means. He pressures Cher to make out with him and he seems to believe that being popular and cool is more important than anything else. When Cher finally gets to know the real Elton, she doesn't like him at all.
If Clueless was cast today, this character would have to be played by an equally mysterious actor, and Shia LaBeouf seems like a good choice. He has definitely kept people guessing over the years with his film roles and off-screen antics.
Mel Horowitz: Alec Baldwin
Cher's tough lawyer dad was played by Dan Hedaya, and if the movie was cast now, Alec Baldwin seems like he would be a perfect choice for this character.
Mel's loud, booming voice is often heard in the Horowitz household, and he teaches Cher all kinds of random "life skills" like how to get better grades by simply talking to the teacher. With hilarious performances in comedies like 30 Rock, Alec Baldwin can handle this part for sure, and he would make this character even funnier.
Miss Geist: Krysten Ritter
Miss Geist is one of the greatest teachers in cinema as she's sweet, dedicated to her job, and she really cares about her students. Sure, she has lipstick on her teeth a lot of the time, as Cher points out, but she has a good heart.
Who should play Twink Caplan's part if Clueless was cast today? Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23's Krysten Ritter would be great. She's got a quirky sense of style and she takes on many different roles, so this would make sense for her.
Travis: Rupert Grint
Breckin Meyer's Clueless character, Travis, might not say any of the movie's famous quotes, but he's still an important part of the story. He and Tai fall in love, which is adorable to watch, and he often hangs out in the background, proving that being popular isn't the only thing that matters.
Rupert Grint hasn't had a lot of memorable roles since becoming famous for playing Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter series, so it would be cool to see him in a movie like Clueless. He has the same sweet, humble nature as Travis.
Mr. Hall: Ian Ziering
Wallace Shawn's character, Mr. Hall, has a hard time getting his students to actually listen to him, and watching him struggle is definitely hilarious.
Ian Ziering made TV fans laugh as Steve Sanders on Beverly Hills, 90210, and now that he's older, it would be cool to see him as a teacher.
Amber: Lindsay Lohan
Amber (Elisa Donovan) is a classic teen movie mean girl, but she also stands out, thanks to her sense of style and love of slang.
Lindsay Lohan could definitely take on the role of Amber, as the Mean Girls star has a strong presence in whatever film or TV show she's in. When Amber walks into a room, all eyes are on her, and she commands a lot of attention. Lohan would nail this.
Dionne: Mindy Kaling
Dionne (Stacey Dash) is Cher's best friend in the world. Cher explains that they're aware that people are envious of them and that they connected over that. Even if their friendship seems pretty materialistic at first, these girls do care a lot about each other.
Mindy Kaling has been busy since her sitcom finished, and she would be a totally perfect Dionne. She's super stylish and has pitch-perfect comedic timing in every part she plays.
Tai: Taissa Farmiga
Taissa Farmiga is incredible on American Horror Story, and she seems to have huge dramatic range.
Why not cast her as Tai, the naïve new girl at school whom Cher takes under her wing? Farmiga has played some others characters who have Tai's innocence, and it would be fun to see the actress in a movie that isn't horror.
Josh: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
With his extensive filmography, Clueless. He really brought his sweet, easygoing nature to this part.
Josh is an intellectual and he has a much more mature vibe than Cher and her friends. Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be a good choice as he seems like an old soul who also looks fairly young.
Cher Horowitz: Kat Graham
Fans of The Vampire Diaries loved watching Kat Graham as Bonnie Bennett, a very likeable character who went on quite the journey as she learned she was a witch.
Kat Graham would be great leading this movie as Cher. It's a part that needs someone who is both strong and vulnerable, as Cher is a bubbly, confident high schooler who has insecurities like anyone else.
