Please Put Them On, Takamine-san is already stirring up controversy among the anime community after only having debuted onCrunchyroll yesterday. While there are many reasons why this show could be considered controversial, the most apparent reason is not just the fact that a mainstream platform like Crunchyroll is simulcasting an ecchi series, but because it's completely uncensored when censorship would be applicable and warranted, even with an 18+ mature labeling.

Like most ecchi series or other anime fans won't want to watch with their parents around, the lead male Shirota is put in many compromising positions where he's forced to look at and even touch Please Put Them On, Takamine-san's eponymous female protagonist in sensual areas. The fact that Takamine herself purposely facilitates many of these moments makes them the series' focus.

Please Put Them On, Takamine-san Has Topless Scenes That Aren't Censored

This is on top of the many ecchi-themed scenarios that are prevalent in mature anime

Ironically, the series' opening scene begins conventionally for an ecchi series, whereby Shirota is found fondling Takamine, but nothing too erotic is shown. The initial reaction that nothing too explicit will be shown is very misleading, however, based on what happens soon afterward.

Aside from that obviously deceptive opening, there are multiple instances where Takamine is not only shown fully topless without censorship but even involuntarily engages in racy acts, increasing the explicit nature of these scenes. The first takes place when Takamine enters a school shed where Shirota was originally alone and then proceeds to undress as he hides in a corner. Unlike many other anime that leaves nudity merely implied, it is outright shown fully here.

The most explicit scene, however, is when Takamine puts Shirota's hands on her chest. Even though she's wearing a top at the time, she is soaked, and the audience can easily see through her drenched shirt, leaving nothing to the imagination. This is obviously the more explicit version of the series' opening scene, whereby nothing is shown, even though Takamine is topless at the time.

However, this isn't the first time that Crunchyroll has shown unambiguously mature content, like the Tales of Wedding Rings. In Please Put Them On, Takamine-san, some of the more controversial aspects aren't even these uncensored scenes or even the instances where Shirota is put in compromising situations. What's a far bigger deal is how the episode ends, and if the roles had been switched in these closing scenes, there would've likely been more outcry, similar to how the adult-themed Chainsaw Man series avoided controversy by not having Denji take on Makima's more dominant role.

Essentially, Takamine forces Shirota to continuously engage in sexual acts for her by blackmailing him into submission. She actually frames him, too, but because of the show's oddly supernatural spin, this phenomenon soon demotes the framing to mere blackmailing.

The true irony, however, is that the original manga by Yuichi Hiiragi actually isn't as explicit as the anime. A quick browse on the Square Enix manga series is hosted reveals that the explicit imagery that the anime shows was originally censored. In other words, Liden Films, which produces the anime, made Please Put Them On, Takamine-san more explicit than the original manga, and, probably more surprisingly, Crunchyroll allowed it.
