The gameplay of Black Sapphire Cookie – being present on the battlefield, will grant Candy Apple Cookie the ability to push back enemies, while buffing the abilities of the other two.

A simpler way players can buff their teams is by selecting a team leader. This only requires one cookie to be present, and can greatly benefit their allies, no matter who they are. Certain cookies make great team leaders, and may be the best choice if you want to rank up in the arena.

There Are Seven Team Leaders Which Grant Their Team Different Buffs

In Cookie Run: Kingdom, certain powerful cookies can be selected as team leaders. Depending on which cookie has been chosen as team leader, their allied cookies will receive different bonuses, and only one character can be selected at a time. This is currently only available for legendary cookies and awakened ancient cookies.

The only legendary cookies who can be selected as team leaders are those with crystal jams, so characters such as Stormbringer Cookie and Wind Archer Cookie cannot be chosen. Different team leaders can prove useful in different circumstances - in a game mode such as Boss Rush where there is a heavy focus on elemental damage, choosing Dark Cacao Cookie or Golden Cheese Cookie will boost the amount of dark or earth-type damage dealt.

Awakened Pure Vanilla Cookie Gacha Animation Cookie Run Kingdom

The best cookie for you to use in the arena as a team leader is Awakened Pure Vanilla Cookie, who was released in the Beacon of Truth update. The majority of the buffs granted from the other team leaders are element-specific, meaning that they work the best in a team which mainly consists of the same element. However, the Cookie Run: Kingdom meta doesn't depend on elemental damage, and you will need to use cookies of several different elements.

For example, lots of popular arena teams include Burning Spice Cookie, Golden Cheese Cookie, and Wind Archer Cookie as damage dealers. Burning Spice deals fire damage, Golden Cheese deals earth damage, and Wind Archer deals wind damage. Though having awakened Golden Cheese Cookie as a team leader would be useful for boosting her own HP, it won't do much for the rest of the team. If a powerful ambush or magic cookie takes her out, then the buff will be useless. Meanwhile, Pure Vanilla Cookie and Black Pearl Cookie are more versatile and will always benefit the whole team.

Shadow Milk Cookie Might Have Already Changed Cookie Run: Kingdom Forever

Shadow Milk Cookie is the newest beast in Cookie Run: Kingdom. Why is he so popular, and what has his impact been on the game?

Black Pearl Cookie is a decent choice of team leader, and her damage resist by buff makes her a fantastic match with Shadow Milk. However, unlike Awakened Pure Vanilla, she currently isn't in the meta, and is much better off being replaced by Wind Archer or a cookie of a higher rarity. Pure Vanilla's team leader buff is also good for countering teams with Shadow Milk Cookie, who starts with a shorter cooldown and has been dominating the arena since his release - extra health and damage resistance at the start of battle will greatly impact the team's survivability against him.

How To Select A Team Leader In CRK

Cookie Run Kingdom Team Setup Containing Dark Cacao, Golden Cheese, Snapdragon, Shadow Milk and Black Pearl Cookie

In order to select a cookie as a team leader, you need to do more than obtain them. The legendary cookies – Black Pearl, Frost Queen, Moonlight, and Sea Fairy Cookie – will first need their crystal jams to be built. This is very similar to creating and upgrading the magic candies of epic cookies. You need swiftness, arcane or strength crystals, epic soul essence, and resonant ingredients. Unlike resonant ingredients for magic candies, these ingredients can only be obtained from chests, or by completing stages in the trial grounds.

Crystal jams can be upgraded using the same ingredients they're made with, which makes the cookies holding them even more powerful. Upgrading a crystal jam has the chance of "super success," which will reward the you with crystals, extra materials, and a guaranteed successful upgrade the next time they attempt to level up the jam.

Meanwhile, in order to awaken an ancient cookie, you need to gather 20 soulstones for their awakened form. This works in the same way as obtaining a cookie normally, and you can draw these soulstones from almost any gacha. It's actually possible to obtain all the soulstones needed to awaken a cookie before obtaining them in their regular form, but the original cookie is still needed to unlock the upgraded version. Similarly to promotion and ascension, ancient cookies can be awakened up to five times.

Once a cookie is eligible, they will be able to be selected as a team leader in the bottom left of the team setup menu. If you do want to build a team focused on elemental damage, you can also view the skill elements of all their cookies here. Team Leaders are a fun way you can buff your teams in Cookie Run: Kingdom, and give more incentive to build ancient and legendary cookies with the release of the beasts.
