Crazy, Stupid, Love is one of the best rom coms of the 2010s.
The film has a quirky story with several interesting characters. As they search for love at varying degrees of success, characters like Jacob Palmer and Robbie Weaver present their likability in their attitude and actions. Some personalities are revealed as more likable than others.
Bernie Riley
John Carroll Lynch plays Bernie. He is Cal and Emily Weaver's friend. However, after Cal and Emily split, Bernie shows his true colors. Bernie is cowardly. His wife tells him they can only be friends with one of the two when they plan to divorce.
Bernie's wife insists they choose Emily, and Bernie follows her instructions blindly despite wanting to be friends with Cal. Bernie is angry. When Jessica's pictures surface, he goes after Cal in a rampage without finding out the facts: Cal has no idea about them.
Kate Tafferty
Marisa Tomei plays Kate in what some call one of her underrated performances in Crazy, Stupid, Love. Cal meets Kate at a bar after he first begins trying to talk to other women thanks to Jacob's advice. She is pleasant and drawn to Cal's honesty.
However, after Cal neglects to call her following their night together, she reveals some unlikable qualities. She is later revealed as Robbie Weaver's teacher, and she causes a scene at Cal and Emily's parent-teacher conference. She is angry and rude.
Robbie Weaver
Jonah Bobo plays Robbie. He is the son of Cal and Emily. He is a generally positive young teen and often believes in his parents' relationship even when they don't. However, his pleasantness fluctuates. He goes on a tirade during an English class discussion.
He has a crush on his babysitter Jessica Riley, and continually sends her emotional text messages, even after she tells him they make her uncomfortable. He holds a grudge against his dad after he finds out Jessica is in love with him.
Cal Weaver
is one of Steve Carell's highest-rated movies. He plays Cal. Cal can be pleasant and gentle and is a good father to his kids. However, he presents several unlikable qualities. He is rude and stubborn. He lashes out at others.
He berates his friend Jacob after it is revealed he's dating his daughter Hannah. He is malicious toward his wife Emily after she tells him that she has been unfaithful. He speaks ill of her in front of his daughter. He lies and doesn't call Kate after telling her he will.
Jacob Palmer
Ryan Gosling plays Jacob. He is the intoxicating young man who takes Cal under his wing in an attempt to help him "rediscover [his] manhood." He is helpful and charming. However, he isn't as perfect as he seems to appear to his dates.
Jacob is duplicitous and reveals he manipulates women with his ruse. However, he is kind to almost everyone he interacts with when he isn't being brutally honest with Cal. He is loyal and stands up for his friends, punching David Lindhagen when they meet.
David Lindhagen
Kevin Bacon plays David. He is instrumental in the overall plot of the film. He helps cause the rift between Emily and Cal when he and Emily sleep together. Audiences hear about David at the beginning of the movie.
However, when David is presented to viewers, he is much nicer than Cal describes him. He is charming. He is polite and kind. He tells Emily he wants to be with her and that she makes him happy to go to work every day. He is thoughtful and comes to Emily's house to return her things.
Jessica Riley
Analeigh Tipton's Jessica is Cal and Emily's babysitter and the object of Robbie's affection. She doesn't return his feelings and appears to let him down gently following his tenacious advances. She is kind to both him and his parents.
Jessica rarely presents unlikable moments in the film. She has emotional responses to the conflicts in her life, but she seldom reacts at the expense of others.
Emily Weaver
Julianne Moore plays Emily. She is Hannah and Robbie's mother and Cal's wife. She is quirky and scatterbrained. Audiences perhaps condemn her for her infidelity and for breaking up with Cal, kicking off the events of the film.
However, Emily is thoughtful and kind. She is gentle with Cal after they begin to divorce, and tries to keep things pleasant between them. She is a loving mother, and polite and complimentary to Jacob when Hannah introduces them. She rarely presents maleficent behavior.
Hannah Weaver
Some audiences call one of Emma Stone's best movies. She plays Hannah. She is Cal and Emily's daughter, Robbie's sister, and Jacob's romantic interest. She is funny and driven, and almost never presents unpleasant behavior.
Hannah is kind and positive. She sometimes makes snarky remarks to her ex Richard, as well as Jacob before they get together. However, most audiences might say this appears to be in jest. She is nice to her mother and father. She restrains herself from being hurtful when Cal loses his temper over her dating Jacob.
