Marvel and DC just announced Young Avengers. This will be the first crossover event between the two publishers in over two decades, with the last official crossover between the two being JLA/Avengers back in 2003 - a project that led to significant disagreements behind the scenes. With the announcement of this major comic crossover, speculation has already begun with regard to what the crossover will look like and which characters will cross paths.

Since this isn't the first time DC and Marvel have combined lore, there are some team-ups that fans have already seen. In the past, Spider-Man and Batman have collided, Superman has gone up against the Incredible Hulk, and even the Teen Titans have crossed over with the X-Men. Fans are excited for new match-ups, and the next crossover should see a different Marvel team go up against the Titans, a team that has been hyped up for some time in the MCU - the Young Avengers.

With Wiccan vs Raven, Starfire vs America Chavez and Kate Bishop vs Hawkeye, Titans vs Young Avengers basically writes itself.

The Young Avengers and the Titans Could Be the Most Fun Team-Up of the DC/Marvel Crossover

The Young Avengers Didn't Exist During the Last Wave of Marvel/DC Crossovers

The Young Avengers just missed their shot at the 2003 Marvel and DC crossover, as they were introduced back in 2005 - two years after this event. This is a group of younger heroes, who over the years have expanded their ranks and stand on their own outside the Avengers. While it has a rotating roster, there are some original Young Avengers who've become mainstays for the team, like Kate Bishop's Hawkeye, Hulking and Wiccan. Each of the original founding have some relation to an iconic Avenger - Wiccan and Speed are the sons of Scarlet Witch, Hulkling is the son of the original Captain Marvel, and Patriot is the grandson of the original Captain America, Isaiah Bradley.

Like the Teen Titans, originally the Young Avengers were seen as too young to fight crime, with Captain America attempting to shut the team down. However, both teams established themselves as made up of heroes who could step out of the shadows of their respective mentors, role models, and fellow heroes. Along with that, they also proved they are more than just a bunch of kids, with the Titans aging up in the universe and even standing in for the Justice League in recent comics. Meanwhile, the Young Avengers saved the world, receiving critical acclaim thanks to Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie's beloved run of their series. They've also gone on to major achievements - for example, Hulking currently rules over an alliance of the Kree and Skrull empires.

The teams are even structured in similar ways, so each member of the Titans has a Young Avenger who they can go toe to toe with. Wiccan and Raven have magic covered, Starfire and America Chavez are heavy hitters from beyond the stars, and Hawkeye and Nightwing are street-level heroes who can handle whatever is thrown their way. Depending on what iteration the Young Avengers are, Beast Boy could go up against Stature or the shapeshifter Kid Loki. This matchup just makes sense - way more than Marvel and DC's prior pairing of the Teen Titans with... the X-Men?!

It would make sense for the X-Men to meet up with the Titans once again, giving the successful crossover an unofficial sequel.

The Young Avengers Are a Better Match Than Another X-Men Team-Up

As Seen in 1982's The Uncanny X-Men and The New Teen Titans from Chris Claremont and Walt Simonson

Uncanny X-Men and New Teen Titans

Last time the Titans crossed over with a Marvel team, it was actually the X-Men. In the story, Phoenix warns both her teammates and Teen Titan's Raven about a future catastrophe, and as the Titans investigate the Phoenix in response, they get captured by Darkseid, as are the X-Men. Darkseid plans to use the Dark Phoenix to turn Earth into a second Apkolips, but the X-Men and Titans team up to save the day. It made sense given each team's popularity at the time, but there aren't many commonalities between the two groups: former sidekicks turned legacy heroes and mutants who are hated and feared by human society.

While it would make sense for the X-Men to meet up with the Titans once again, allowing these heroes to see each other again (and potentially rekindling the romance between Nightwing and Jubilee), it would be way more satisfying for the Titans to finally encounter their Marvel equivalents.

The MCU Has Not Committed to the Young Avengers, But This Would Be a Major First Step

Cassie Lang, Kate Bishop, Wiccan, Speed, and Hulkling Assemble the Young Avengers in Marvel Comics

Despite there being a lot of fan love for the Young Avengers, they haven't gotten a series in a number of years. However, the MCU has been hyping up the potential formation of this team. Popular Young Avengers have been debuted in the MCU, as seen with Kate Bishop, Wiccan, and America Chavez. Meanwhile, the MCU has introduced other potential new recruits for the Young Avengers, like Ms. Marvel and Iron Heart, with Kamala Khan making with other young heroes in The Marvels.

If Marvel wants to further build interest in this potential MCU team, the Young Avengers need to be welcomed back into the fold of the comics. While there are multiple Avengers titles already out - The Avengers, Avengers Assemble, Aliens vs. Avengers, and West Coast Avengers - for some reason there is no Young Avengers miniseries or ongoing. Hopefully, that's because Marvel is holding the heroes to get the team back together in its crossover with DC, finally uniting Marvel and DC's next generation of heroes in the Titans and Young Avengers.
