An old interview with 1 early Superman contender has emerged revealing details of his failed director Zack Snyder for Man of Steel. The 2013 movie marked the start of the DCEU, with Cavill's Superman being the first hero introduced in the shared DC universe. Now, with James Gunn's new DC Universe soon repeating Man of Steel's feat by starting with Superman: Legacy and David Corenswet as Clark Kent, an early contender for Man of Steel's lead role reveals details from his failed audition.
During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan revealed that he auditioned to play Superman in Man of Steel.
After being asked about what superhero roles he had auditioned for, Dornan revealed that he had only tried to get the role of Superman in Man of Steel. The actor then went on to describe his Man of Steel audition, joking that while he got nowhere near wearing the famous costume, he wore "Superman pajamas" to the audition. Check out the full exchange below:
“Dornan: I think the only one I auditioned for was Superman. That was way back when, that’s when Henry Cavill got cast.
Horowitz: Did you get the suit on? Did you feel you were actually in the running?
Dornan: I brought my own suit there, was that a mistake?
Horowitz: You wore your underoos? That might have been a bad call.
Dornan: They were Superman pajamas, they weren’t an actual suit.”
Who Could Jamie Dornan Play In The New DC Universe?
While he never got to play Superman, Dornan might still have a superhero role in his future. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon introducing the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, several high-profile superhero roles are going to be up for the taking. The same can be said for the DC side of things, as Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe is only just starting, and judging by how many heroes are confirmed for Superman: Legacy, Dornan will have plenty of chances to nab another DC role years after his failed Superman audition.
The Brave and the Bold movie, which will be directed by The Flash's Andy Muschietti, is set to star a new actor as Batman, with Bruce Wayne meeting his son, Damian, and bonding with him. Several popular DC Universe Batman fancasts have appeared since the movie was announced, and Dornan's name has popped up as one of the possible actors to take on the role. In the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, Dornan showed that he can convincingly portray a playboy billionaire with a dark side, making him perfect for Batman.
Another possible role Dornan could have in the new DC Universe is that of Green Lantern Hal Jordan, who is set to make his debut in Max's Lanterns series. The show will see Hal Jordan and another Green Lantern, John Stewart, unravel a mystery on Earth that will have ramifications for the DC Universe's overall story. Dornan's work on the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, as well as the thriller series The Fall and the Academy Award-winning movie Belfast, show the actor has the necessary charisma and range to play the most popular Green Lantern, becoming a superhero after failing to play Superman in Man of Steel.
