Dead By Daylight’s newest killer is Vecna, as part of a crossover with famous TTRPG Dungeons and Dragons. Vecna, also known as The Lich, is a powerful killer with new unique Perks and strategies for learning how to manipulate them. Understanding how they work will be crucial in succeeding at sacrificing all of the victims as Vecna, but also for those who are trying to survive.
Chapter 32: Dungeons & Dragons featuring Vecna will be released on June 3, 2024, with the public test build happening through May 20th. Also releasing with this chapter is Survivor Aestri Yazar, and three exclusives. These exclusives include a new universal common charm, and a couple cosmetic pieces for the Survivor.
This information is based on the latest information from Patch 8.0.0 and is subject to change before the full release of Chapter 32.

The Black Vale: Future Dead by Daylight Comics Needs to Explore The Game's Greatest Mystery
With Dead by Daylight's first comic done, there's potential for a second series to be made, and the game's biggest mystery should be the focus.
Perks for Vecna (The Lich)
New Unique Perks For Any Killer
As usual, Vecna comes with three Dead By Daylight that are unique to this expansion, but you can unlock them for other Killers by increasing their Tier level by using them in play. This is known as Prestige and will allow players to put them on any Killer after they have done so. These Perks are called Dark Arrogance, Languid Touch, and Weave Attunement, which allow Vecna to see Survivors easier and slow them down while speeding himself up.
Perk Name |
Effect |
Additional Information |
---|---|---|
Dark Arrogance |
|
Blinded Killers cannot see Survivors and will become briefly stunned. However, they can still hear and are able to continue following the Survivors by other cues. |
Languid Touch |
|
This perk has a 20-second cooldown. Survivors will be unable to activate perks that "exhaust" while they have the Exhausted status effect. |
Weave Attunement |
|
Oblivious prevents Survivors from hearing or being affected by the Killer's Terror Radius, which would normally alert them to the Killer's proximity. |
Powers of Vecna (The Lich)
Avoiding Obstacles While Creating More
Vecna’s weapon certainly looks more unique and imposing than The Unknown's in Dead By Daylight and is called the Afterthought Dagger. Additionally, Vecna has a movement speed of 4.6 m/s and a Terror Radius of 32 meters. He is considered average, in both height and difficulty to play, and his power is called Vile Darkness. To see some of those powers in play, check out D3AD plays YouTube video.
Vecna is known for having a command of magic that cannot be matched by anyone else, and he soon focused in on necromancy. This led him to fill a book, also called Vile Darkness, with all of his dark magic. This power is what fuels his attacks in Dead By Daylight, with a strong bent toward casting spells. There are four spells Vecna can choose from when holding down the Secondary Power button, and you will be able to select which one you want to use in that moment:
- Fly: You are able to fly across the environment, which allows you to by pallets and windows.
- Flight of the Damned: This summons 5 flying entities that can go around obstacles and injure Survivors, forcing them to slow down and leaving a trail for you to follow.
- Dispelling Sphere: This casts an invisible sphere that can reveal Survivors through your Killer Instinct and will disable any Magic Items they have for 60 seconds.
- Mage Hand: Creates a Magical hand that can move dropped Pallets upright or block upright pallets from being dropped for 4 seconds.
Each spell is on its own cooldown, letting you use any of the other three while one of them is still recharging.
There are two other abilities Vecna can grant:
- Special Treasure Chests: Magic Items: Treasure Chests will spawn throughout the environment that will contain special Magic Items for Survivors to use that will either be Boots or Gauntlets that will reveal the Aura of The Lich during the use of it’s spells:
- The Skyguard: Reveals it during the Fly spell.
- The Nightwatch: Will show the Auras of the Flying Entities during the Flight of the Damned spell
- The Archivist: Will make the invisible sphere visible during Dispelling Sphere spell
- The Interloper: Will show the Auras of any pallets that have been affected by the Mage Hand spell and will grant a +7% Haste Status Effect for 3 seconds
Not all Treasure Chests contain Magic Items, some of them are Mimics.
Additionally, Treasure Chests sometimes contain an even rarer item. This will grant them a special ability by reducing their Health State and triggering Killer Instinct. These items are:
- The Hand of Vecna: Running into a Locker will teleport the Survivor to another Locker that is a minimum distance of 10 meters away, but will trigger a Loud Noise Notification on the target Locker and will put Killer Instinct on the Survivor for 5 seconds.
- The Eye of Vecna: Running out of a Locker will have the following effects for 12 seconds:
- It will suppress the Survivor’s Aura, Scratch Marks, Blood Pools, and Grunts of Pain
- Grants them complete invisibility
- Grants them 25% Haste
- Triggers Killer Instinct for 3 seconds after becoming visible again
However, if you have one of these artefacts, Vecna can trigger his Special Interaction: Recover Artefact. This means that if a Survivor has one of these items on them after being on 2 Hook Stages, Vecna can press the Attack button while standing over the same Survivor if they are downed to execute them on the spot.

Tips For Playing As Vecna (The Lich)
Fast Movement and Slow Survivors
One of the main benefits of playing as Vecna is his speed and ability to navigate the map. His spells Fly and Mage Hand both allow him to avoid obstacles and can be used one after another if he’s in hot pursuit of a Survivor. Additionally, if you cannot find any Survivors, the Dispelling Sphere can reveal them, allowing Vecna to follow them. This movement across the map can force Survivors to stay on the move, which can create one of the best horror experiences in video games for the Survivors.
Moreover, taking advantage of the items spawned on the map to trigger Vecna’s Weave Attunement Perk and the Recover Artefact interaction will make Survivor’s a little wary of using the Magic Items, which is of benefit to you either way.
You will want to pair the Languid Touch with things like the Dispelling Sphere or the Flight of the Damned in order to slow the Survivors down and keep them within range if they do happen to outpace you. Either way, you will make a formidable Killer in Dead By Daylight.
