There are a few Wolverine cliches that are starting to be somewhat tiresome and Deadpool: Black, White & Blood #2 shows that even the Merc with a Mouth is getting tired of them. Even Deadpool knows that he needs some new foes and means of being killed as the usual methodology just isn't what it used to be.
Marvel's Black, White & Blood titles provide stunningly violent stories that include some of the publisher's deadliest characters, including Deadpool, Wolverine, and Carnage. Since his introduction in 1991 in The New Mutants #98, Deadpool has taken on many of Marvel's heroes and villains. He's been sliced and diced, but he always comes back - though a new preview suggests DP may be getting a bit tired of the same old way of doing things.
Deadpool: Black, White & Blood #2 includes stories and art from a slew of writers and artists across three brand new adventures. They include "Purple Craze," "Deadpool Party," and "Pool of Death???" These stories will star not just Wade Wilson, but also Zebediah Killgrave and Wolverine. These are some of Deadpool's most dangerous encounters - though fighting Wolverine's getting pretty old at this point. "Pool of Death???" is written and illustrated by Daniel Warren Johnson. The preview for the story shows Wolverine fighting Deadpool, resulting in Wilson getting his head sliced off by Wolverine's claws - as usual - which even Deadpool seems to be getting tired of. After being decapitated, Wade remarks on this sequence being overdone - and he's completely right. Deadpool is known for breaking the fourth wall regularly, so when even he thinks something is becoming cliche, there's a problem. already killed the Marvel universe, but this match-up can only be entertaining for so long if nothing changes.
Daniel Warren Johnson recently wrote the 2021 series, Beta Ray Bill, for Marvel, so it will be interesting to see if he can put a twist on Deadpool's interaction with Wolverine - or perhaps give fans something more enticing altogether. There are only so many ways that the mercenary can be hurt and it may be a good time for creators to find some new angles for the character. Fans can see Deadpool's newest trio of stories - and fight against Wolverine - when Deadpool: Black, White & Blood #2 releases September 8.
