Warning: MAJOR Spoilers for Deadpool #6!Marvel has officially killed Deadpool in its main continuity, and just as he was finally happy. The death of Deadpool has been a long time coming. Ever since Marvel announced his days were numbered, fans have waited with anticipation to see how the Merc with a Mouth would finally die. Now, the day has come, and it's undeniably one of the saddest ways to see him go.

In Deadpool #6 by Cody Ziglar and Rogê Antônio, Death Grip returns in the final panels to finish the job he started after giving Deadpool a major injury that changed his lore forever. He cuts off Deadpool's other arm before reciting an incantation that destroys Wade from the inside.

Comic book s: Death Grip removes Deadpool's life force, killing him.

It's a surprisingly gruesome moment that is sure to break fans' hearts, especially seeing how painful it looks based on him gagging and feeling "the wisps of life evaporating." However, what hurts most is his realization of what he's leaving behind by finally dying: a happy life.

Deadpool Dies, Destroying Him at His Happiest

Deadpool #6 by Cody Ziglar, Rogê Antônio, Guru-eFX, and Joe Sabino

Comic book s: Deadpool realizes that he's dying at his happiest moment.

The upsetting truth behind Deadpool's death is how he's being torn away from his happiest moment. Just before Death Grip comes in, he's listing off the things that are finally going his way, as his daughters, Ellie and Princess, happily in the family business, his debts are paid, and he's finding a new familial relationship with Taskmaster. To see it all taken away from him within a matter of seconds is incredibly rough to watch, especially since the comic cuts away before readers can see Ellie's reaction to her father's death.

Even with the promise of a return at a much later date, Deadpool's death is still a difficult moment to watch.

Of course, this emotionally brutal scene isn't to say that Deadpool will be gone forever. He always has some way of coming back, and, as always in comic books, death is merely a suggestion. However, it's unknown just how long Deadpool will stay dead. Doctor Strange didn't come back until well over a year after his death in the miniseries The Death of Doctor Strange - by Jed MacKay, Lee Garbett, Antonio Fabela, and Cory Petit - so anything is possible. However, even with the promise of a return at a much later date, it's still a difficult moment to watch, especially for a character known for being more lighthearted than other heroes.

Will Ellie Strike Back?

It will be interesting to see taken up the mantle as the new Deadpool, Ellie is in a position where she has the power to avenge Wade. She has her father's healing factor as well as a supersuit gifted to her that protects her from some of the more dangerous parts of her missions. Plus, with her sister Princess by her side, she could prove to be a powerful new Merc with a Mouth as she ensures her father doesn't die in vain.

Until Ellie learns of her father's death in the Deadpool #7, though, this issue undeniably ends on a bitter note as Wade Wilson finally dies. What this means for his story going forward is anyone's guess, but it's undeniable that he's leaving the Marvel Universe at the worst possible time for him personally. Deadpool was finally happy when he officially died, and to see that happiness taken away from him in an instant is a moment that fans will never forget.
