Warning: Spoilers for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30!A high-stakes crossover adventure is officially on the way for Spider-Man at the center of compelling stories. In an original update to Miles’ lore, he finds himself at the mercy of a Spider-God with the power to totally alter his future.
The preview for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30 by Cody Ziglar and Luigi Zagaria welcomes Miles back home from his Wakandan adventure with Black Panther and puts him right in the middle of a fight with Deadpool. Before catching up with the Merc with a Mouth and his daughter, Miles gets a visit from the god Anansi.
Sitting on Spidey’s shoulder, Anansi reminds the hero that he expects “good stories” from his champion. With an ancient god reading his thoughts and pulling strings behind the scenes, Miles now has a secret meta ability that attracts him to the action, making "good storytelling" one of his quasi-superpowers.
Miles Morales’ Role as Herald to Anansi Makes Exciting Adventures His New Superpower
Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30 by Cody Ziglar, Luigi Zagaria, Bryan Valenza, and Cory Petit
In an effort to cure Miles’ vampire curse, the spider-hero sought help from Black Panther, but T’Challa might have changed everything for Miles’ power set and future by accidentally unlocking his connection to Kwaku Anansi. As revealed in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #28 by Ziglar and Daniele Di Nicuolo, Anansi is a trickster god who exists across various realities and universes and who claims Miles as his Herald. The Spider-God is also known as the Weaver of Stories, and after Miles impressed him at the end of his Wakandan adventure, Anansi now looks to Spider-Man to spin exciting new tales for his entertainment.

Miles Morales Flexes His Biggest Difference to Peter Parker's Spider-Man With New Lore
As Miles Morales officially becomes a Herald to a Spider God in the Marvel Universe, his version of Spider-Man becomes even more unique.
This new development totally opens up Miles’ potential in the Marvel Universe, but it’s still unclear how it all works. With Anansi perched on his shoulder and influencing his day-to-day life, Miles officially has the abilities of a god on his side, though this power could actually land the web-slinger in more sticky situations than ever before. Starting with Spidey’s battle against two Deadpools, Miles’ status as Herald to Anansi basically means that there will never be a dull moment for the hero ever again, as he will consistently be thrust into action to make things more interesting for the ancient god.
Spider-Man's Relationship with the Spider-God Could Be a Blessing, But It Might Actually Be a Curse
The Weaver of Stories Promises More Trouble in Spider-Man’s Future
Though Miles’ new relationship with Anansi could bring along a certain level of godly abilities - and confirms that the character will always be in the middle of good stories - that could end up being more of a detriment than a superpower. With Anansi dictating his life and weaving complicated tales, Spider-Man and his family could be put in the middle of more danger and drama than ever before. To kick off this crossover with Deadpool, Miles’ clone brother Shift has already been shot, and there’s no telling just how far this trickster god will go to craft an exciting story.
Anansi makes Miles Morales’ life as a superhero considerably more dangerous and raises the stakes higher than ever before.
Anansi’s role in Miles’ life is still currently being defined as the series drops more clues about what exactly the god expects from the “good stories” he craves. However, just as Miles is grateful for his life to finally be back to normal, the Spider-God is there to remind the hero that normalcy is actually the opposite of what he wants to see. Though the godly update makes for a truly outrageous new addition to Spider-Man’s lore and redefines his power set, Anansi makes Miles Morales’ life as a superhero considerably more dangerous and raises the stakes higher than ever before.
