A new trailer details everything included in the Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Collector's Edition, but fans are upset that the expensive edition doesn't come with a physical game disc. The game from legendary game producer Hideo Kojima's Kojima Productions received a release date and star-studded trailer earlier this month. The game will continue the journeys of a lone courier (played by Norman Reedus) through a post-apocalyptic landscape.

The sequel to Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding will launch on the PS5 on June 26, with preorders beginning on March 17. Several editions will be available for purchase, from the standard edition at $69.99 to a collector's edition priced at a whopping $229.99.

A new trailer from PlayStation has been released, showcasing everything included in the Collector's Edition, and many fans are upset that the expensive option will only have a key for digital of the game, instead of a physical disc copy.

Death Stranding 2 Collector's Edition Doesn't Include A Physical Copy Of The Game

Many Fans Say They'll On The Edition Because Of This

The Collector's Edition for Death Stranding 2 will include plenty of collectibles for fans of the games. The following items are included in the pricey version:

  • Full Game Digital
  • Collector’s Box
  • 48-hour Early Access to the Game
  • 15” Magellan Man Statue
  • 3” Dollman Figurine
  • Art Cards
  • Letter from Hideo Kojima
  • Several In-game Items, including everything from the DS2 Digital Deluxe Edition

What isn't included, much to fans' dismay, is a physical disc copy of the game. A steelbook (a metallic casing for the game instead of the standard plastic packaging) is also not part of the collection.

The Death Stranding 2 showcases antagonist Higgs as so ridiculous that players will want to throw their controllers away, says Kojima.

Disgruntled fans have taken to the comments section of the Collector's Edition video posted to the PlayStation YouTube channel to voice their displeasure at this glaring omission. YouTube Slask7 notes that they'd rather get the standard edition of the game, which "comes with the single most important thing: physical media of the game." Both a physical and digital version of the game are available for purchase separately, so it's unclear why Kojima Productions decided to leave the physical copy out of the collection.

Collector's editions for games are generally meant for the biggest fans, who want to spend a bit more cash to get physical rewards they can put on display. The metal game casing is one of the most common rewards, generally included in most game collector's editions. It seems like a serious oversight not to include a physical game for fans whose goal is to collect physical rewards from their beloved title.

"We’re witnessing the death of physical media in real time."

Many fans state their intention to on this edition of the game, citing the lack of physical game copy as their reasoning. For some, the lack of disc and steelbook is indicative of a larger trend in the game industry. YouTube label828 laments: "We’re witnessing the death of physical media in real time."

Whether this is true or not, the fact remains that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will include only a digital copy of the title, not a physical one. The other rewards may still be enough to entice fans to pay $230 for the collection, but it's clear that many players are disappointed they won't be getting a disc version as part of the deal.
