Kojima Productions' post-apocalyptic postman simulator Death Stranding 2 might feature an entirely different location. The sequel, which is currently using the working title Death Stranding 2, will bring back iconic characters like Sam Bridges, Fragile and Higgs Monaghan. While no gameplay has been shown off yet, clues from the reveal trailer hint that players will be performing international delivery in DS2.

The Game Awards 2022 officially confirmed Death Stranding 2 with a trailer that follows director Hideo Kojima's signature cryptic style. The trailer focuses mainly on Fragile, the teleporting delivery professional portrayed by Lea Seydoux, as she cares for a baby before being viciously attacked. The trailer shows off cool new technology, like a high-tech unicycle, before revealing Norman Reedus as an aged Sam Bridges. The cinematic trailer for Death Stranding 2 also teases the return of Higgs Monaghan, the boastful villain played by Troy Baker, and subtle details hint that the sequel may explore a brand-new location too.

The DS2 Trailer Introduces Fragile's Massive Airship

Fragile's large airship revealed at the end of the Death Stranding 2 trailer

While the entire Death Stranding 2 trailer is filled with fascinating details, one of the final scenes is perhaps the most interesting. Towards the end of the trailer Sam Bridges s Fragile near a tar lake, with the main Death Stranding character now physically older. A massive airship then rises out of the tar, with Fragile inviting Sam to "come meet [her] crew" to "hit the road and start a new journey." This scene implies that DS2 will take Sam and Fragile to a brand-new location outside of the post-apocalyptic United States. The UHC Magellan airship is presumably named after Portugese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, who opened a maritime trade route across the Pacific Ocean.

Death Stranding 2 May Change Its Setting From America

America was a major focus in Death Stranding, but it would make sense for the game's sequel to venture into a new part of the world. Players already explored the entire country in the first game, with Sam Bridges linking the Chiral Network from the East Coast of Death Stranding's unrecognizable America all the way across to the West Coast. To avoid a redundant experience, Death Stranding 2 must travel to a new location to give players a brand-new map to walk, climb and drive across. The UHC Magellan could take players to a new continent, with its name implying somewhere across the Pacific Ocean, or it could even venture to more fantastical locations.

While the past and future of America was a massive theme in Death Stranding, the game's sequel seems poised to visit a brand-new landscape. Fragile's airship the UHC Magellan will likely facilitate this change in scenery, perhaps even allowing players to explore multiple different continents or fantasy settings. Players already painstakingly traversed and reconnected the entire United States of America in Death Stranding, so Death Stranding 2's best improvement could be heading to uncharted territory.
