The year 2024 was undoubtedly a fantastic year for animated movies. Inside Out 2 sured Frozen II to become the highest-grossing animated movie of all time at the worldwide box office. It made just shy of $1.7 billion at the worldwide box office, positioning it as the highest-grossing movie of the year. It was not the only animated movie to achieve success. In fact, four of 2024's top 10 highest-grossing movies were animated films, including Despicable Me 4, Moana 2, and Kung Fu Panda 4.
Moana 2 box office is still going strong and now seems like a likely contender to the elite group of animated movies that have made over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. At the time of writing, only 11 animated movies had reached this achievement, and most are under Disney. However, one of the most successful animated franchises came from a studio other than Disney, and some of its films have gotten bad streaming news.
Despicable Me And Its Sequel Are Leaving Netflix Soon
They Will Be Gone Next Month
Despicable Me franchise has since had two installments cross the $1 billion mark, including Minions ($1.1 billion) and Despicable Me 3 ($1 billion).

Every Type Of Minion In The Despicable Me Movies
The minions are an important part of the Despicable Me franchise and have taken many notable forms over the past decade and six films.
Unfortunately, What's On Netflix reveals that two Despicable Me movies will be leaving Netflix soon. Despicable Me and its 2013 sequel will both be parting ways from the platform on February 1. This gives audiences less than a month to catch the two early movies before they leave the platform. The post-Netflix streaming plan for the films has yet to be revealed, but both movies are currently available to rent on Prime Video.
Our Take On The Despicable Me Movies Leaving Streaming
Despicable Me Fans Might Go Bananas
The Despicable Me movies leaving Netflix seem to follow a recent trend on the platform. They will get big movies, such as Dune and Transformers, for a limited time before those movies are ousted from the platform. While this could frustrate some viewers overall, this could be a strategy to drive viewers to watch newly added content when it is first put on the platform, or right before it leaves. While it is still bad news for Despicable Me fans, I would not be surprised to see the movies creep up the charts in the pre-removal days.
