For more than two decades, the cast of the original Digimon Adventure anime has been a vital part of the franchise. Their relevance can never be underestimated, as Tai and his friends have been the faces of the franchise ever since they were introduced. Still, as with everything in life, their time to say goodbye has finally come, as explained after the release of Digimon Adventure -BEYOND-.
Many fans who grew up loving the original show likely found themselves losing interest in the story as they grew up. To commemorate the ending of such an iconic series, it would be a good idea for these viewers to learn what they might have missed before the final goodbye arrives. The DigiDestined and the original group of Digimon have gone on several exciting quests that not every member of the fandom is aware of.
Life After the Digital World

This new reality in which humans and Digimon coexist was further explored during the slightly disappointing film series known as Digimon Tri. As high school students, the original DigiDestined begin to drift apart, losing the bond that once connected them. Their lives have also become more difficult, as the world is in constant danger from Digimon attacks, forcing them to fight against the digital threats before civilians are hurt. As Tai deals with his new reality, a new character is introduced, Meiko Mochizuki, whose partner, Meicoomon, is being targeted by Alphamon for unknown reasons.
Meicoomon Was Part of Something Bigger
King Drasil Revealed Itself as the Villain of the Series
As most Digimon fans might know, King Drasil is a powerful supercomputer in charge of maintaining order in the Digital World. It has acted as a major villain several times in the series, as it lacks any kind of empathy or emotion. Digimon Tri is not the exception, as this machine is the one behind the strange occurrences between the Digital and human worlds. After meeting Meicoomon, the DigiDestined quickly discovered that the creature was created to reboot the two dimensions where the series takes place.
Drasil, noticing the chaos that the link between the two worlds caused, decided the best course of action was to erase their data and begin anew. Meicoomon was the key to this plan, as she was the carrier of a powerful virus that would erase humans. The DigiDestined, aided momentarily by the neutral force of Homeostasis, fought against the King of the Digital World and attempted to save Meicoomon from her tragic fate. All this occurred while the heroes struggled to keep their new friends from suffering even further, all because of the whims of a cruel machine.

It's Been Decades, But Digimon Needs to Address One of Its Biggest Fan Theories Already
Digimon names are unique, taking inspiration from its premise that the Digital World is simply a program and Digital Monsters are files.
As they heroes fought destiny, another player was working in the shadows to help Drasil achieve its goals, a former DigiDestined known as Maki. She was a member of the original group of chosen kids but tragically lost her partner, Tapirmon, during her final battle. Few pieces of her backstory were revealed during the films, but the franchise still has not developed the story of the first DigiDestined, despite Digimon fans waiting for a hit anime based on their past.
Last Evolution Kizuna Is the Next Entry in the Story
A Bittersweet Goodbye
Five years after the battle against Meicoomon and King Drasil, Matt and Tai are desperate to find their way in life. This decision becomes complicated as they can feel the bond with their partners breaking the more they grow. As expected, fate is not on their side, as a new threat to the Digital World known as Eosmon has been spotted abducting DigiDestined across the world and rendering them unconscious. During their investigations, the heroes meet a woman named Meona, who claims she wants to help them unravel the mystery.
She also explains that since the bond between a Digimon and its partner is fueled by the potential of a child, this link will break as the heroes mature. Regardless of their dread at the idea of losing their friends, Tai and his friends are forced to run, as Eosmon and its mysterious tamer are hunting them one by one. The ending of the film is hopeful but saddening beyond belief, and fans who have not seen it will truly enjoy the experience.
Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning
The Prelude to the Grand Finale
Once Eosmon was defeated, the Adventure 02 DigiDestined came across a man named Lui, who claimed to be the first-ever chosen child. His former partner, a kind but naïve Digimon named Ukkomon, used his wish-granting powers to make everyone treat him with kindness.
These wishes caused instability between the Digital and human worlds, forcing more children to become DigiDestined and fight against the evil creatures trying to conquer both. After their disastrous fallout, Ukkomon became determined to make his friend happy by becoming a massive DigiEgg and forcing every human to bond with a Digimon.
