As 2024 draws to a close, Disney+ is announcing some impressive anime offerings for the year ahead. In the anime community, Disney+ is often sidelined in favor of other subscription services like Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll. Disney+ has always had mainstream offerings for anime lovers, hosting major series like Jujutsu Kaisen and Bleach. But as far as exclusives and originals go, Disney+ hasn't attained the same prestige as Netflix (Violet Evergarden, Kakegurui, Beastars) or Crunchyroll (Tower of God, TONIKAWA) with fans.

In reality, Disney+ has been producing anime exclusives for a while now. They offered the niche hit Black Rock Shooter a follow-up in 2022 with Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall, and beloved classic Code Geass received a Disney+ exclusive film in 2024 called Code Geass: Roze of the Rebellion (although the latter's reception was lukewarm, to say the least). Although anime has never been Disney+'s priority, a string of recent announcements confirm several new exclusives for the platform that could entice anime fans who are yet to try the service.

Twisted Wonderland Anime Announced For 2025 On Disney+

The Manga For Disney's Kuroshitsuji-Tinged Mobile Game Is Finally Being Adapted

Twisted Wonderland Teaser Poster

The most exciting announcement for many would be that Twisted Wonderland's anime is finally going to be released, as reported by DTimes.JP. An anime adaptation of Twisted Wonderland was first announced in October 2021, so the project has been long in the making. Produced by Yumeta Company and Graphinica, three seasons have been announced, correlating to the three manga adaptations of the game: Episode of Heartslaybul, Episode of Savanclaw, and Episode of Octavinelle. The first season is slated to be released in October 2025.

For the uninitiated, Twisted Wonderland is a game with gacha, rhythm, and action elements made by Aniplex in cooperation with Walt Disney Japan. A more pertinent point of reference might be that its concept, main scenario, and character design have been left in the hands of Black Butler mangaka Yana Tosobo. Fans of Black Butler's extremely distinctive characters might want to give Twisted Wonderland's Disney-villainesque characters a chance.

What Anime Are Coming To Disney+ In 2025?

Disney+'s Line-Up For 2025 Might Surprise Anime Fans With Its Quality

The list of exciting new Disney+ anime doesn't stop there. One of Shōnen Jump's best-selling series ever, Cat's Eye, is also set for a new anime adaptation. The series centers around the three Kisugi sisters. Their father was a renowned art collector who went missing during the Nazi regime, and the trio would become art thieves hellbent on retrieving the works he had collected. The series was adapted decades ago and had a crossover with Lupin the Third, but this is the first modern adaptation of the Jump classic. A definitive release date hasn't yet been provided.

Other works recently announced include:

  • Medalist, a figure skating anime in the vein of Yuri on Ice!!!. A young girl who dreams of becoming a figure skater but who is told that it's too late to learn meets a disillusioned ice dancer who was once told the same—and who refuses to let another young skater give up on their dreams.
  • BULLET/BULLET, a new anime by the director of Jujutsu Kaisen due for Summer 2025. Little has been revealed about the plot, but a trailer is available.
  • Wandance, produced by Madhouse and Cyclone Graphics, where a boy insecure about his stutter meets a fearless dancer. He desires to have her confidence and s the Dance Club to be with her.

While it still doesn't offer the vast selection of many other services, Disney+ is clearly putting work into their anime catalog, and 2025 is projected to be a bright year for the service—as well as an opportunity to clean up their reputation with anime fans.
