Disney Dreamlight Valley has two types of in-game currency: Star Coins and Moonstones. While Star Coins are used to purchase clothing, decor, and other items from various Stalls in the game, Moonstones are a secondary type of currency. Moonstones can be used in places where Star Coins cannot, unlocking various experiences and items that are otherwise inaccessible for the typical player.
The main way to acquire this form of currency is to buy it for real-world money. The price of Moonstones varies depending on how many you buy at one time, from a pack of 1,200 for $4.99 USD to 14,500 Moonstones for $49.99. Buying Moonstones is not required to play or enjoy the game, but it grants access to certain cosmetics that can't be acquired in any other way. Luckily, buying Moonstones for real money isn't the only way to get them, and there are several ways to earn the currency without spending a single cent.

What Moonstones Do In Disney Dreamlight Valley
Moonstones Are A Form Of Currency
Moonstones are used to buy items from the shop in Disney Dreamlight Valley. This is where you'll find cosmetics, companions, furniture, and more items that can't be purchased at Scrooge's store or anywhere else in the Valley.
Unlike other aspects of the game, which can be synced across different platforms, Moonstones don't carry over between consoles. They can only be used on the platform on which they were purchased. However, free Moonstones are available in your no matter which console you're playing on.
The currency can also be used to unlock the Star Path, which unlocks more redeemable rewards. More Tokens for each Star Path can also be bought using Moonstones, making them useful when Star Path duties are too difficult or if there's not enough time to complete them.
Every Way To Get Free Moonstones In Disney Dreamlight Valley
There Are Four Main Ways To Get Free DDV Moonstones
The main way to get Moonstones in Disney Dreamlight Valley is to just buy them. However, there are a few ways that non-paying players can accumulate the currency without having to pay money. Collecting enough free Moonstones is a great way to get access to a Star Path or buy a dream cosmetic from the store.
Find The Daily Blue Chest
Every day, a blue chest spawns somewhere in the Valley. Players should make it a point to seek these out because each blue chest contains 50 Moonstones. Although a blue chest is guaranteed to spawn every day, it can appear anywhere in the Valley, including in areas that players haven't unlocked yet.

Disney Dreamlight Valley: All The Storybook Vale Recipes
The Storybook Vale expansion is a huge addition to Disney Dreamlight Valley, including many new recipes for appetizers, entrées, and desserts.
Despite this, I was able to find a blue chest in a new playthrough fairly easily. It's worth keeping an eye out for the daily blue chest as you go about your daily tasks in DDV since these Moonstones accumulate pretty quickly.
Participate In DreamSnaps Challenges
DreamSnaps are weekly themed photography challenges where players can compete for rewards. The DreamSnap theme changes every week, so every week's photo will need to meet the specified requirements. DreamSnaps are one of the best ways to earn Moonstones in the game.
Vanellope must be a resident of the Valley to get access to DreamSnaps.
Just for entering, players get at least 300 Moonstones (along with other rewards like furniture and clothing). There's a chance to earn even more if the image is chosen as a winner, with the first-place winner receiving up to 5,500. Players can also get an additional 50 Moonstones per challenge by voting on other entries.
Redeeming Rewards In Star Paths
Disney Dreamlight Valley introduces a new Star Path every few months, which lets players complete quests to earn Tokens. These Tokens are, in turn, redeemed for various themed rewards, including Moonstones.

How To Unlock Vanellope In Disney Dreamlight Valley
To welcome Vanellope von Schweetz to Disney Dreamlight Valley, players must complete a DreamSnaps challenge and find a spot to build her house.
Every Star Path has the potential to earn 20,000 Moonstones if every reward tier is unlocked. Even if the DDV's higher-tier duties are too difficult to complete on time, it's worth at least doing the first page or two since these are usually easy enough, even for beginners, to finish. Every rewards page has an increasing number of Moonstones, starting at 100 on the first page.
Input Reward Codes
One final method of getting free Moonstones in Disney Dreamlight Valley is by redeeming special reward codes. Codes can be redeemed in-game by going to Settings, then Help, and entering the code in the Redemption Code field. New codes are added and removed regularly by Disney, so keep an eye on the company's socials for all the latest redeemable codes.
Most special offers earn rewards like items, but sometimes, Moonstones are offered up as a reward for entering a code. Special reception codes in Disney Dreamlight Valley are the least regular way to earn Moonstones in the game, but they're a possibility that shouldn't be overlooked.
