UPDATE: Read our .

The new trailer for the Frozen II teaser trailer earlier this year, hinting at an epic and action-packed adventure for the heroes and their snowy pal Olaf (Josh Gad).

Written by Allison Schroeder (Hidden Figures), Frozen II will follow Anna (Kristen Bell), Elsa (Idina Menzel), and Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) on a journey well beyond the kingdom of Arendelle. The film's teaser was pretty vague when it came to plot details, offering little in the way of concrete information and inspiring all manner of fan theories about what it may or may not have revealed. It did its job, though, and got people excited to learn more from the next major piece of marketing.

Much like the teaser, the Frozen II trailer does a nice job of hyping the film without revealing much of anything about its story. Both the trailer and newly-released synopsis indicate the sequel will explore the truth about Elsa's powers and where they come from, even as she and the others set out on a "dangerous but remarkable journey" to protect Arendelle from outside forces. The footage also shows Elsa meeting with Grand Pabbie aka. the Troll King (Ciarán Hinds), who tells her she must go north across the "enchanted" lands and into the unknown to learn the truth about what's happening. From there, the trailer teases Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf encountering all sorts of dangers, including some kind of magical fire in the woods and what appears to be a giant (rock? Ice?) monster, as well as a mythical water spirit called Nokk.

Altogether, the Frozen II marketing continues to do a good job of keeping a lid on the movie's secrets, while at the same time establishing its darker and more mature tone. It appears the intention here is for the Frozen franchise to grow and evolve as its core audience does, and that's encouraging to see.
