Summary

  • Disney Lorcana: Into the Inklands cards offer impressive artwork and new gameplay elements.
  • The Illumineer's Trove includes new items like damage-counter dice and a lore counter.
  • Missing booklet aside, Into the Inklands is likely Disney Lorcana's best expansion yet.

The first two sets released for Disney Lorcana were excellent, but in many ways, Into the Inklands has proven that old idiom true - the third time is the charm. The cards found within the Into The Inklands booster packs have some of the best artwork to date, the Location cards are a fun shake-up to the TCG's formula, and quite a few of the new cards can shake up the meta in interesting ways. The Illumineer's Trove is a must-have for collectors, and Into the Inklands' features some nice additions - like damage-counter dice and a new lore counter - that improve gameplay.

Illumineer's Troves have always been a highlight of Disney Lorcana releases, and Into the Inklands' boxed set is no exception. Disney Lorcana: Into the Inklands is the third set from Ravensburger's popular TCG, and the new Illumineer's Trove gets some nice updates in the process. While the latest cards are spectacular, the additions to the Illlumineer's Trove come at the cost of a few cuts, which are ittedly a little disappointing.

The Illumineer's Trove for Into the Inklands comes in the usual outer cardboard box, with the goodies inside all being packed into a storage box featuring artwork from the set's cards. In this case, the sides feature new Location cards like Maui's Place of Exile from Moana and the RLS Legacy from Treasure Planet. The lid features artwork of Piglet, Jafar, and Stitch and highlights some of the new takes on these characters found within the expansion.

Inside are the following items:

  • 6 card dividers
  • 8 booster packs with 12 randomized cards each
  • 6 damage-counter dice
  • 1 Lore counter

The dice are a nice addition, and the Lore counter feels very high quality. The card dividers are also perfect for storing these cards inside the box and are of far better quality than the deck boxes found within the first two sets' Illumineer's Troves. I'm not sad to see the deck boxes go, but I am disappointed that there's no booklet this time around. The previous booklets contained updates on Disney Lorcana's story, discussed game rules and terminology, and showed off all the cards in the set alongside a nifty checklist. The missing booklet is really the only negative here, but I'm hopeful the next Illumineer's Trove will have one again.

Disney Lorcana: Into The Inklands Booster Packs & Cards

There are eight booster packs in the Illumineer's Trove for Into the Inklands, each with 12 random cards inside. Although I didn't get any Enchanteds this time around, I did manage to pull a couple of Legendary cards - Lucky Dime and Gramma Tala. Of the 80 or so different Into the Inklands cards I've gotten, the artwork is impressive on every single one. I've found a few to incorporate into my usual deck and even more to set aside and experiment with over the next few weeks.

Into the Inklands has proven that old idiom true - the third time is the charm.

From a gameplay perspective, Location cards have offered a nice little shake-up here in Into the Inklands. Even after the new shine of them has worn off, I've found myself using some - like the Queen's Castle or Pride Lands - regularly in play. As a collector and as someone who grew up in the '90s, I can't get enough of the TaleSpin and DuckTales cards (even if the latter's cards are based on the reboot). The other new IPs here - like Atlantis: The Lost Empire or Treasure Planet - have a nice spread of characters, items, and Locations, too.

Pongo Into The Inklands Disney Lorcana

Disney Lorcana's latest expansion might just be its best yet. The new IPs featured in Into the Inklands are a nice spread from Disney's large library, and the new gameplay elements and artwork are all excellent. It's disappointing that there's no booklet this time around, but the new goodies in the Illumineer's Trove mostly make up for what's missing. Regardless, the box set should make a nice addition to the collection of any Disney Lorcana fan.
