It's that time again, when a brand-new expansion set to Disney's tabletop card game (TCG), Disney Lorcana is about to release. Reign of Jafar is the eighth set to the game and features several dual-ink cards and others that could easily become key components to winning with some decks. The set will launch for pre-release events at local hobby stores and Disney Parks this Friday, May 30, 2025, followed by a mass market release on June 6. From there, players will get to mix and match these cards into their favorite decks, or create new ones.
Possibly in anticipation of several Lorcana sets getting banned from competitive play with the new set rotation policy, Reign of Jafar does include a couple of reprinted cards such as the "Dalmatian Puppy - Tail Wagger." These are not nearly as numerous as the ninth set will feature, when the policy is officially instituted, but still interesting to note.
Of course, each person will have their own opinions on what their favorite Disney Lorcana: Reign of Jafar cards will be. Particularly once the meta decks have started coming to light, the idea of what cards are best could change. This list is created based on card details known currently, by someone who regularly participates in tournament events and has a thorough knowledge of the game.
10 King Candy - Sugar Rush Nightmare
23/204 EN.8, Ruby/Amber Dual-Ink
When Disney Lorcana: Reign of Jafar releases, many players may have to take a second look at the notable Racer cards from Wreck-it Ralph. The idea of Racers is not new to Lorcana, and several of the cards have already been instrumental in securing some wins for their players, but Reign of Jafar is kicking things up a notch.
"King Candy - Sugar Rush Nightmare" is only an uncommon rarity, but when placed in a Racer-heavy Ruby and Amber deck, could be a very useful and cheap card. King Candy only costs three ink to play, and players can pull another Racer card out of their discard and into their hand when this one is banished. With multiple copies of King Candy, it is entirely possible to keep from ever running out of cards, and it synergizes very well with other Racers.
9 Beyond The Horizon
202/204 EN.8, Steel Ink
"Beyond the Horizon" is a Song card for Steel decks, which is costly but extremely useful for cutting down opponents' hands. It is a cost seven, uninkable, card, but any number of characters can be used to sing it for free. Once played, any chosen players must discard their hands and draw three new cards.
Not only could this put the opposition in a lurch if they had specific plans they were working towards or had a large hand of cards, but players could also use it to strategically help themselves get cards if they were running low and had less than three cards in their hands. The uninkable nature makes it likely to not be heavily used, but its ability is powerful in the right situation.
8 Raya - Infiltration Expert
100/204 EN.8, Emerald Ink
Another costly, but powerful card is "Raya - Infiltration Expert" for the Emerald ink. This Legendary card has the ability "Unconventional Tactics", which allows players to pay two ink every time Raya quests to ready another chosen character.

Disney Lorcana Illumineer's Quest: Palace Heist Is The High Quality Game We Were Looking For
Disney Lorcana is releasing its second Illumineer’s Quest, this time called Palace Heist. It focuses on the villain Jafar, and yes, it has a box.
Raya already quests for two lore, and being able to ready another character who has already challenged or quested could allow for even more. In a deck with high lore characters, Raya could make for very quick wins, although being a six-ink card would take some time to get there. Potentially, if a player were able to have two copies of Raya on the table, they could bounce off each other, using two ink each time, to gain a substantial amount of lore in one turn.
7 Into The Unknown
81/204 EN.8, Amethyst/Sapphire Dual-Ink
One of the dual-ink cards in this set of Disney Lorcana is the Super Rare Song, "Into the Unknown." Elsa is surrounded by a swirl of magic in this Amethyst and Sapphire deck card, and uses that magic to create havoc for opponents or give extra ink to the player. With only a cost of three, "Into the Unknown" causes the player to choose an exerted character to put into its player's inkwell.
This can be used in a myriad of ways. Players can use it to rid the battlefield of a card they don't want their competition to be using. Or, players can use this to give themselves a little ink by getting rid of a heavily damaged character, or just sacrificing one they don't need as much. When someone is just a little short of a high cost card, this could allow them to be able to get there a turn sooner.
6 Bambi - Little Prince
63/204 EN.8, Amethyst Ink
If a player is like me and often chooses to go the route of racing to the finish line by collecting lore as quickly as possible, "Bambi - Little Prince" is an ideal card to have on hand. The Legendary card only costs three, but is dangerously low on willpower. If protected by a character with Bodyguard, or simply used against someone who perhaps isn't paying enough attention, Bambi has the potential to quickly ramp up the lore.

Disney Lorcana: Reign Of Jafar Illumineer's Trove Review - New Cards Keep The TCG Feeling Fresh
The Illumineer's Trove for Disney Lorcana: Reign of Jafar offers a host of items for fans of the popular TCG, alongside plenty of new cards.
Not only does Bambi quest for three lore, but gains an additional lore when placed on the table. When an opponent plays a character, Bambi goes back to its player's hand, so it can be played again for another easy lore. Even if the opponent plays characters each turn, so Bambi isn't able to quest, it still gives an easy lore at a low ink cost.
5 Goofy - Groundbreaking Chef
4/204 EN.8, Amber Ink
Aside from having absolutely adorable artwork, "Goofy - Groundbreaking Chef" is a good card to have in a deck. The Legendary card only costs four ink, and at the end of each turn the player takes, they may remove one damage from each of their other characters and ready them, thereby protecting them from further damage. This makes Goofy a fairly decent healer and protector, and with good stats of his own.
If the player uses Goofy to quest for two lore, he will be put in the line of fire if all other characters have been healed and readied, but Amber ink is also full of some impressive bodyguards that could be used to protect him.
4 Ludwig Von Drake - All-Around Expert
7/204 EN.8, Amber/Sapphire Dual-Ink
Not only is Ludwig Von Drake an "All-Around Expert" in this set, but his card is also an all-around good choice for any Amber/Sapphire deck. Ludwig costs a mere two ink and is fairly basic as far as numbers go, but his special abilities are where he shines. When played, the opponent must reveal their hand and Ludwig's player can choose to discard any non-character card. Then, when he becomes banished, rather than going to the discard pile, Ludwig is placed into the player's inkwell.
Played early in the game, not only does this create a strategy of stopping the competition from using a strategically dangerous card, but can quickly fill up the player's inkwell.
3 Lumiere - Fired Up
139/204 EN.8, Ruby/Sapphire Dual-Ink
Evasive characters can always be useful, but particularly ones like "Lumiere - Fired Up." Not only can Lumiere quest for two ink, but that can go up to three if an item is banished. With it also having Shift 3, that means that players could potentially play this card pretty early in the game, and it would be wonderful to use in tandem with a card like Pawpsicle, which can be banished to remove two damage from a card.
Having this added to any item deck would give a quick way to gain lore, potentially early in the game, and its Evasive status keeps it from being too vulnerable to attack.
2 Bolt - Down But Not Out
29/204 EN.8, Amber/Steel Dual-Ink
There really aren't too many cards in Disney Lorcana that can naturally quest for four lore, particularly if they only cost three ink to play. "Bolt - Down but Not Out" may not have any mind-blowing extra abilities, but the simple fact that it can provide four lore makes it an incredibly useful character. When paired with other characters who can ready a chosen character, he can be a powerhouse for gaining lore.
With a low defense of four willpower, it is an easy target. Having a Bodyguard character on the table would be a good idea, particularly as Bolt comes into play exerted so it could be banished before it is ever able to quest. Bolt was also recently one of the best characters for the Archazia's Island set, and has proven to be a fan favorite.
1 Tramp - Dapper Rascal
22/204 EN.8, Emerald Ink
Currently, Amber/Emerald decks can be excellent, except they often suffer from a lack of card draw, leading to players running out of cards and suffering from a disadvantage. This is where "Tramp - Dapper Rascal" could potentially be a saving grace. His ability to Shift 4 means he can come into play fairly early on, and he has a massive willpower (defense) of eight.
Besides questing for two lore, he has the "Play it Cool" ability that allows players to draw a card whenever one of their characters is banished in the opponent's turn. This could make it the card that the Amber/Emerald combo desperately needed in Disney Lorcana.
