One of the many series Marvel Studios is developing for Disney+ is none other than WandaVision. It looks to be one of the quirkiest of all of the projects in development, as it plays heavily on Wanda's extreme power set.
While the series looks to be a take on a number of different sitcoms, there are plenty of other genre types that would lend themselves well to the second season of the show. Here are 10 genres that would work for future seasons of WandaVision.
ROMANCE
While there looks to be romantic elements as part of this show, the series isn't a straight romance. However, creating it so it resembles some of the most classic romance films could build a stronger bond between Vision and the Scarlet Witch.
It looks like they are pulling plenty of plot lines from the comics including the fact they have kids together. Perhaps this next stage of their lives could be shown as a romance film, where the couple are struggling to find one another again and rekindle their romance while raising their children.
WESTERN
Wanda can pretty much replicate any time or place, so a western would be a really fun direction to go in. Vision as the lonely sheriff and Wanda very much as the gun-slinging hero of the town, the two could find each other amidst the chaos.
Every western needs some sort of rich businessman as the villain and there's a number that could be introduced from the comics to fill the role. However, a reality where Justin Hammer serves as the local gold hunting maniac would be spectacular.
TEEN
Speaking of Wanda and Vision's kids, this could allow for a spin-off episode with them in the lead roles. We assume that the kids in question would be Wiccan and Speed of the Young Avengers, and they could contribute to a great teen drama.
The tropes of the genre are well known so it would be easy to replicate in this format. This would be a great way to introduce us to the kids, who are probably ageing abnormally quickly due to the strange magic at play.
PERIOD
It looks like WandaVision might be heading back in time as, evidenced by the black-and-white portion of the recent trailer. However, a period piece would be a really fascinating direction to take the series in.
Set in a world of Jane Austin novels, the show could have Vision court Wanda in the setting of Edwardian England or perhaps some other noble time period. Not only would the costumes be spectacular, but the dialogue would be a great change of pace, exploring different themes.
WAR
War movies are always powerful, especially when put together in the right way. The last time we saw Vision and Scarlet Witch together they were in the middle of a war. It wouldn't be surprising, therefore, if this continued to play with Wanda's mind.
She may warp her reality so that it appears more like a WWII film, with Vision's human form fighting in the trenches before being ed by a groundbreaking female soldier. Of course, the great loss of Vision may haunt Wanda throughout this reality.
HORROR
It's obvious that many of Wanda's powers could lend themselves to the horror genre. However, this all depends on how haunted Wanda really is by her own past. There are been plenty of elements of the comic's runs that see horror elements introduced.
This would not only play well into how the series will affect the future adventures of Doctor Strange; it would also allow for the showrunners to explore the darkest parts of Wanda's mind so audiences can understand her mental state in this harrowing adventure.
MOCKUMENTARY
This one is a little bit out of the box, but a mockumentary exploring this unusual robotic family would be really intriguing. Candid interviews with Vision and Wanda could help us understand what they actually think about the situation.
Of course, this would all be in Wanda's head, so there could be an omniscient camera that captures everything, but it's still pitched as if it's a genuine documentary. This would be an incredible change of pace compared to the rest of the series.
NOIR
A noir mystery could be a good way to bring a little more tension into the mix. No doubt it would involve whatever the nosy neighbor is up to and would be a way that the local neighborhood could be explored.
Of course dark tones and cinematography would be needed here as well as a change of wardrobe. Either of the main characters would serve well as the lead detective, perhaps investigating a local disappearance or a robbery in the area.
MUSICAL
It needs to be done. At some point a Marvel Studios property is going to have to allow itself to delve into the realms of the musical genre. This may be the perfect place to do so as there's plenty of mind-warping opportunities for everyone to break out into song.
The romantic tale of Wanda and Vision lends itself well to a musical, although one ittedly with science fiction undertones. However, this can be the way that Wanda tries to reinvent their story to something much more human.
SILENT
Another genre that hasn't been touched yet in the MCU but could work really well in this format is the silent movie. This would only function for one episode as anything longer may draw people away from the series.
A lot can be said with just body language and this could demonstrate that Wanda is slowly losing control. She could become sick of all the noise of her life and silence everything without knowing how to reverse it. This is immediately an adventure with emotional stakes in a new genre.
