The official Eberron content in D&D 5e from the Eberron: Rising from the Last War sourcebook in 2019 and a few digital offerings. That's set to change in 2025, as WotC has announced a new sourcebook, Eberron: Forge of the Artificer, coming in 2025.
The new book will be compatible with the 2024 Player's Handbook and brings new Eberron-specific backgrounds and feats. It will also have changes to Dragonmarks, and a new subclass for the popular Artificer. Forge of the Artificer isn't a campaign book, but it will feature some adventures that can be compiled into a campaign if a DM wishes.
When Eberron: Forge Of The Artificer Releases In 2025
Releasing August 19, 2025, With Early Access Starting Before
The new Eberron: Forge of the Artificer sourcebook will be released on August 19, 2025. This date will make Forge Of The Artificer the third of six new Dungeons & Dragons books released in 2025, which started with the new Monster Manual on February 18. In a January 2025 press event, former lead D&D game designer Jeremy Crawford described Forge of the Artificer as an Eberron-specific Xanathar’s Guide to Everything.

Jeremy Crawford and Chris Perkins to Leave Dungeons & Dragons' Design Team
The two guiding forces of Dungeons & Dragons for the past decade are both stepping away from the game, Screen Rant has learned exclusively.
That means Eberron: Forge of the Artificer is not a full adventure book like Curse of Strahd but a companion book to Rising from the Last War. It is not meant to be a replacement for the 2019 book and is intended to be used alongside it, so players can choose which new pieces of content they want to include in their games. The new book will also feature three sample adventures titled "Sharn Inquisitives," "Dragonmark Intrigue," and "Morgrave Expeditions." These will use the adventure prep outline featured in the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide and can be expanded by players to create longer campaigns.
Eberron: Forge Of The Artificer Price & Editions
Breaking The Pricing Standards
In accordance with its status as a companion book, Eberron: Forge of the Artificer is releasing at a lower price point than other offerings. At $29.99, the book is half the cost of the new standard and $20 less than the comparatively reduced price of the 2024 sourcebooks. D&D hasn't yet made it clear what the new format will look like, but it may be a slimmer paperback release in the style of older "splatbooks."

After 10 Years, D&D Is Finally Giving Me The Books I've Been Begging For
My biggest problem with the lineup of modern Dungeons & Dragons products will finally be solved in 2025 thanks to the addition of two new books.
A digital copy of Eberron: Forge of the Artificer is even cheaper, coming in at $19.99. Splurging on the "Ultimate Bundle" that includes both digital and physical brings the total to $39.99. Along with the effective discount on the books, this bundles in five exclusive digital maps and an "Artificer's Forge" digital dice set.
The maps are usable only in the D&D Beyond Maps functionality, however, and they can't be ed separately. Since DMing games in Maps requires a D&D Beyond Master Tier subscription, this bonus is only relevant for subscribers. Pre-orders of both the regular digital edition and the Ultimate Bundle will receive an "Airships of Eberron" digital dice set.
Artificer Updates, New Species, Backgrounds, & Feats
Brand New Subclass And Changes To Dragonmarks
Rising from the Last War is most famous for introducing the Warforged race and the Artificer class to D&D 5e. Forge of the Artificer will re-introduce the Artificer class to 5e in 2025 with changes to its four current subclasses and the addition of a new Cartographer subclass. All the new Artificer changes were available to playtest through D&D's Unearthed Arcana, and you can still see them on D&D Beyond. There are likely to be some changes between the Unearthed Arcana and the final Artificer rules in Forge of the Artificer when it releases, however.

After Seeing D&D's New Unearthed Arcana, I'm Convinced We're Returning To This Fan-Favorite Setting In October
Dungeons & Dragons just released a new Unearthed Arcana playtest that heavily hints at a return to the Ravenloft campaign setting in October.
Previously, Artificers focused on metal-focused tinkering, like Artillerists and Armorers, or on healing as Alchemists. The Cartographer subclass is instead focused on movement and scouting, using their artisan tools to create maps and spell scrolls. The Dragonmark system is unique to Eberron, and traditionally was tied to a character's race during character creation.
Now, with Forge of the Artificer, players can instead choose their Dragonmark at a later level with the new 2024 Feats system. Alongside the returning Warforged, Forge of the Artificer now recognizes Khoravar as its own species. They were previously considered half-elves in Rising from the Last War. In total, the new book promises 40 player options and lists five revised species, 18 backgrounds, and 28 feats as points of appeal.
New Bastion Options & More Content Coming To Eberron In 2025
Eberron-Specific Content For The New D&D Systems
The 2024 Player's Handbook introduced the Bastion system in D&D 5e, which is a set of rules made for players to obtain and manage their own base of operations in a campaign. It's a large, potentially complex system that is still in its early stages, and it will become more fleshed-out with future sourcebooks like Forge of the Artificer.
The book will have new Bastion content that works with the Eberron setting, although we haven't seen exactly what that contains. Wizards of the Coast also teased at the press event that there will be expanded rules for airships in Forge of the Artificer, a mechanic that is very popular in Eberron's low-magic setting with a focus on technology.
Long-time Eberron fans should also be encouraged by the fact that the world's designer, Keith Baker, has been working with WotC as a consultant for Forge of the Artificer.
Although Forge of the Artificer doesn't contain a campaign, it does contain three "genre-based campaign templates." These focus on "fantasy noir, political thriller, and pulp adventure," leaning into three concepts that can thrive in the Eberron setting. In conjunction, the book introduces over 20 monsters that will all be inspired by these campaign templates. New spells and magic items will also be available.
As one of the first books to follow the 2024 rules revisions and the first to be available at a lower price point, Eberron: Forge of the Artificer could be a major part of determining the future of D&D, so it's worth keeping an eye on even for those who aren't Eberron fans. Thanks to the backward compatibility of the rules revisions, it could also be useful for Dungeons & Dragons tables that are sticking to the 2014 rules, although features like bastions and class features built on the new background systems might be less applicable or require tweaks.
