Throughout the years, the diversity of companions has been refreshing, showing that anyone can run with The Doctor and save the world, no matter how insignificant they think they are. With over 50 years of companion interaction, content is overflowing for hilarious memes.

"Don't Wander Off"

incredibly inquisitive nature and sense of adventure. Combine this common knowledge with the meme format above, and audience can't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all.

This Guilty Little Cry Laugh

Rory Williams and Amelia Pond jumped off a building and died in an attempt to escape death. And they succeeded. Only to come back and find Rory's name etched into a gravestone. Rory had died and come back to life so many times, but this time, it was final. Unfortunately for Rory, but fortunately for meme lovers, this is a brilliant opportunity for some cry laugh humor.

The Inevitable

Viewers know it. The Doctor knows it too. Companions can't stay forever, and just as The Doctor has to regenerate, they too have to change. Whether it be leaving by choice, leaving by force, having their memories wiped, aging, or dying. This meme has taken the tragic moment leading up to the Tenth Doctor's death and made it heartbreaking for other reasons, while also being clever and hilarious.

It Had To Be Done

Donna Noble had possibly one of the most tragic companion exits. Yes, she didn't die, but she did regress. She lost all of her memories in relation to The Doctor and their adventures together in time and space. She lost her development, her realization that she was more important than what others had forced her to believe.

She lost her best friend. And in a dramatic change to this ending, it was The Doctor's turn seasons later, to forget someone he loved. To have his memories taken from him. But The Doctor came to when Donna never will.

*It's Bigger On The Inside

Clara's perspective on the TARDIS is that "it's smaller on the outside." The Doctor's response? Confusion. He was expecting the more common phrase of surprise Tenth Doctor even replied "is it? I hadn't noticed." When River Song borrowed the TARDIS, The Twelfth Doctor finally had his moment. The moment where he could show everyone how it was done, and he milked it for all it was worth.

Running

The allure of the TARDIS is its promise of escape. It can travel in time, and it can travel in space. A companion can leave their job, their family life, their studies, and plain mundane responsibilities. They go on adventures, saving the world and meeting aliens, but not a day will have gone by. There can be hiccups sometimes, and it can be addictive. No one can run forever. But in The Doctor's company, one can always be sure of a whole lot of running.

River Song's Timeline

River Song's introduction in the two-part season 4 episode "Silence In The Library," and "Forest Of The Dead," left audiences confused and excited. Who was this woman who knew The Doctor's name? How did she have his sonic? How did she know about Donna Noble's future? Why would she sacrifice herself to ensure she had a future with The Doctor?

But she came to love The Doctor and was a funny addition to the team. Her reactions and facial expressions are quality meme material.

Getting A Talking To

Sometimes The Doctor does something stupid like telling Martha not to her family, or making Clara choose between the earth and the moon, or going to Pompeii and letting Donna witness Volcano Day without saving anyone. And he gets yelled at. Because he's the one who's meant to save everyone. The one who the companions can turn to. Terrible for him, great for this meme.

One After The Other

The Doctor is used to losing companions. It doesn't mean it hurts any less. Sometimes they are mentioned in ing or weigh heavy on two beating hearts, but The Doctor has a responsibility that can't be given to anyone else. Sulking can't last forever, planets need saving. So when someone else does come along, it's often goodbye past companion, hello new adventures, and new connections.
