Furthermore, Groff expressed in an interview for behind-the-scenes Doctor Who: Unleashed that he was open to returning as Rogue to address his fate. Despite the characters just meeting, Rogue immediately had a good grasp on the Doctor and who he is, not only sparing him the guilt of losing Ruby (Millie Gibson) but of giving in to his worse impulses. Rogue stated he doesn't deal with pretending, so it's likely the Doctor Who season 14 character has complete faith that he and the Time Lord will meet again.

Though brief, Rogue and the Doctor's whirlwind Regency romance is a clear highlight of Doctor Who season 14. Gatwa and Groff's chemistry provided a sweet dynamic that left both characters vulnerable to one another while breaking ground for the series' LGBTQ representation. While Herron and Redman may not have intended for it to receive a follow-up, their comment on the bounty hunter's final line may show Davies' is aware of how important such a story could be. Though Rogue may be gone, it is clear the Doctor will his newest love.
