As the first chapter of "Wish World" will see them arrive on a vastly altered world due to the Rani's interference. With the Earth and seemingly the TARDIS team under her influence, the season finale will see Ruby return, alongside several UNIT .
With Ruby set to face the Rani in Doctor Who's two-part season finale, Gibson addressed a certain theory that has gained traction among the fandom while speaking with RadioTimes that suggests the rogue Time Lady may have had some part in her origin, due to previews showing the Rani donning a familiar cloak. While she avoided offering a definitive answer, Gibson praised fan efforts, hinting that everything is connected. Check out Gibson's response below:
I saw this yesterday, and I was literally like, [the fans] are so clever! I can't say if that will happen, but I can say that everything is linked. Russell has cooked up an incredible finale. I think it has everything that a Whovian would wish for in the Wish World!"
What Gibson's Response May Reveal About Ruby's Fate In Doctor Who's Season 15 Finale
Ruby's Wish May Not Be As It Seems
With Gibson's response, many fans may feel confident that their theory could be true, but it may not be the way they expected. When developing Ruby's story arc, showrunner Russell T Davies stated that he wrote it partly as a response to the Star Wars sequel trilogy, specifically regarding how The Rise of Skywalker retconned Rey's (Daisy Ridley) parentage to turn her from part of an unremarkable family to the heir of the Palpatine bloodline. As such, it is unlikely that Davies would go back on his decision, especially as Ruby's arc had been written before fans responded.
Rather, "Wish World" may see Ruby being forced into a reality where her having ties to the Rani was the case to fulfill what it assumes to be her wish, breaking up the family that she had just found after leaving the TARDIS only a year prior. With this not being her desire, Ruby may be able to see through the illusions of this world created by the Rani, Mrs. Flood (Anita Dobson), and Conrad Clarke (Jonah Hauer-King), leading to her taking a stand. This story decision could even be an extended critique of the Star Wars writing issue that Davies intended to address.

Fans May Have Yet To See The Grander Scope Of The Rani's Scheme
Regardless of whether Doctor Who may be preparing to retcon Ruby's story or not, it is clear from previews that not all on "Wish World" is as it seems. While characters like the Doctor have been granted a twisted form of their desires, the Rani's previous plans have shown that there is always a greater ambition behind her goals. As such, Doctor Who season 15's finale may still have many secrets hidden under the surface.
