Guy Beahm, a YouTube streamer more popularly known as Dr Disrespect, has issued a statement responding to allegations surrounding his ban from never returned to Twitch.

Dr Disrespect has now responded to said allegations via a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter), confirming that messages to a minor on Whispers contributed to his ban from Twitch, but reinforcing that "Nothing illegal happened." Excerpts from Dr Disrespect's post:

Everyone has been wanting to know why I was banned from twitch, but for reasons outside of my control, I was not allowed to say anything for the last several years. Now that two former twitch employees have publicly disclosed the accusations, I can now tell you my side of the story regarding the ban.

Were there twitch whisper messages with an individual minor back in 2017? The answer is yes. Were there real intentions behind these messages, the answer is absolutely not. These were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more. Nothing illegal happened, no pictures were shared, no crimes were committed, I never even met the individual. I went through a lengthy arbitration regarding a civil dispute with twitch and that case was resolved by a settlement. Let me be clear, it was not a criminal case against me and no criminal charges have ever been brought against me.

Now, from a moral standpoint I'll absolutely take responsibility. I should have never entertained these conversations to begin with. That's on me. That's on me as an adult, a husband and a father. It should have never happened. I get it. I’m not perfect and I’ll f*cking own my sh*t. This was stupid.

This statement follows Beahm parting ways with Midnight Society, a development studio he co-founded in 2021. Beahm claims his stepping down was a choice made "collectively" by him and the studio. Per The Verge, the allegations that Beahm's messages involved a minor and plans to meet them at TwitchCon 2017 were corroborated by multiple former Twitch employees. According to sources ed by Bloomberg News, the messages exchanged were sexually explicit.

The edit history on the Dr Disrespect X post reveals that Beahm has gone back and forth identifying the Twitch Whispers messages recipient as a minor; the current version of the post, at the time of writing and as quoted above, includes the confirmation that he was messaging an underage individual. While no criminal charges appear to have been made, Beahm himself its that the conversation "sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate." Beahm later follows this ission by stating, "I'm no f*cking predator or pedophile."

In the latter sections of his statement, Beahm reaffirms that he is "taking an extended vacation with [his] family," which was first mentioned on a recent stream of his when the allegations first surfaced. Immediately following his ban from Twitch in June 2020, Beahm claimed to have no knowledge of the reasoning behind said ban. Over a year later, in August 2021, he claimed to be aware of the reasoning, though did not divulge any details. Earlier this year, in April 2024, Beahm revealed that Nike and Oakley had rescinded Dr Disrespect sponsorships following the ban. On June 25, 2024, days after the allegations surfaced, Turtle Beach likewise ended a partnership with Beahm.

While Beahm continues to assert that "it was not a criminal case" and that he is willing to "accept responsibility," the mere fact that he its to messaging a minor via Twitch Whispers is deeply troubling, to say the least, especially with Bloomberg News' sources reportedly corroborating the assertion that said messages were sexually explicit. Beahm was an adult at the time (he would have turned 35 in March 2017). With Dr Disrespect stepping away from his platform, it's unclear what might happen next.
