Since the ing of Akira Toriyama in March 2024, Dragon Ball Super has been on a lengthy, ongoing hiatus that saw the manga abruptly halt in the midst of some exciting new developments. Gohan had just gone toe to toe with Goku on Beerus' planet, and then began training with Broly in preparation for the return of Black Frieza, before Earth's strongest fighters broke into a Saiyan-style all-out brawl.

Unfortunately, any news regarding a potential return for Dragon Ball Super has either been nonexistent or not all that positive, yet series' artist Toyotaro remains active, sharing new illustrations from time to time. In the most recent issue of V Jump, the series celebrated two major anniversaries, and Toyotaro gifted fans some all-new artwork of Dragon Ball's two most recognizable fighters. However, another illustration included two of the franchise's more recent additions, kicking off speculation about a potential spin-off or even a full-time return for Dragon Ball Super.

Toyotaro Shares All-New Illustrations to Celebrate Major Dragon Ball Milestones

Two Dragon Ball Anniversaries Bring Along New Artwork From Toyotaro

The first chapter of Dragon Ball Super was published in June 2015, marking the series' 10th anniversary since its debut just a few short days from now. In celebration, Toyotaro has been sharing all-new artwork, including an illustration of Ultra Instinct Goku and Beast Gohan standing back-to-back earlier this month. However, that isn't the only milestone the franchise is currently celebrating, as mobile game Dragon Ball Legends is now in the midst of its 7th anniversary campaign, a number of which Dragon Ball fans should know the significance.

To send his congratulations, Toyotaro drew a new illustration of Ultra Instinct Goku and Evolution Blue Vegeta fighting side by side. Both characters are headlining the celebration, and are now available to summon. The artist also offered his take on Legends' own original characters, the twin Saiyans, Shallot and Giblet.

All the activity from Toyotaro, as well as Dragon Ball Super's anniversary, has now kicked off discussion surrounding the potential return of the manga, as well as fans chiming in on what they want to see. While Ultra Instinct Goku and Evolution Blue Vegeta have never looked better, some are even asking if they could see Shallot and Giblet in the story soon.

Fans Want the Twin Saiyans Introduced Into the Series' Canon

Toyotaro's latest illustration has not only received positive from fans, but it has also led some to discuss the possibility of introducing Legends' two original Saiyans into the series' canon. While it may be a stretch for either to appear in a future Dragon Ball Super arc, a spin-off manga based on the fighters is very possible and arguably deserved. Shallot and Giblet have become incredibly popular additions in Legends, with the former playing the role of protagonist in the game's story.

AI is becoming more involved in the production of anime, and now the studio behind Dragon Ball is planning to use it, and they're not the only one.

If Dragon Ball Super isn't set to return for some time, a new spin-off one-shot or even a short series with the twins in the leading roles would certainly be welcome. Toyotaro has hinted towards the manga's return before, and his increased activity may be a sign of something to come in the near future, though until a full return is announced, fans will have to enjoy the artist's work as it comes.
