The Dragon Ball Super manga is finally coming back, and it just dropped a limited-time sneak peek at its new chapter. Following Akira Toriyama’s tragic ing, the Dragon Ball Super manga went on indefinite hiatus, but at Jump Festa 2025, it was announced that it would return in February 2025 with a special one-shot, although whether the series would make a full return was left up in the air.
February 2025 is in full swing, and with that comes more information about Dragon Ball Super’s return. When the manga was still running regularly, the official Dragon Ball website would hype up new chapters by posting rough drafts of the first few pages, and sure enough, Dragon Ball’s official website has just released preview pages for Dragon Ball Super’s one-shot special. The preview pages are as great to look at as ever, and surprisingly, they also hint at the manga’s possible continuation.
Everything Revealed About Dragon Ball Super’s Special Chapter
What To Expect From Dragon Ball Super's Special Chapter
The only thing revealed about Dragon Ball Super’s special chapter beforehand was that it would be a prequel to the Super Hero saga, and the preview leans into that story element. The chapter opens with what appears to be an alien invasion, only for it to be revealed to be a movie starring the superhero Clean God, the character Goten and Trunks based their Saiyaman-X personas around. As such, the preview for Dragon Ball Super’s special chapter reaffirms how Goten and Trunks became superheroes because they were inspired by a movie they watched.
Naturally, as a rough draft, not everything looks great, with one even just being a doodle, but for the s that look reasonably close to a finished product, the rough draft for Dragon Ball Super’s special chapter shows that it will be another chapter filled with the same stellar artwork of Toyotaro’s that’s made the manga great to read for so many years. If all of that can be gathered from just the rough draft, then it says a lot about what to expect from the finished product, and that’s something well worth looking forward to.
Will Dragon Ball Super’s Manga Officially Come Off Hiatus?
Will Dragon Ball Super Continue Without Akira Toriyama?
There’s plenty to be excited about with Dragon Ball Super’s return, especially regarding the question of whether or not it will be permanent. There still isn’t an official statement about anything, but the rough draft notably labels the chapter as not just a special one-shot, but as chapter #104, as well. That numbering probably wouldn’t be used if this was a one-and-done deal, so the numbering given to Dragon Ball Super’s special chapter suggests that it will be the first chapter in a resumed serialization.
The idea of the manga returning, of course, is great to think about. Not only would it be great to finally get a conclusion to the conflict with Black Frieza, but Toyotaro had long since proven himself to be more than a worthy successor to Akira Toriyama through his writing and his artwork, so the Dragon Ball Super manga returning to full serialization would be the ultimate means of paying tribute to Akira Toriyama’s legacy. Naturally, people still need to wait for an official announcement, but regardless, Dragon Ball Super’s future has never looked brighter thanks to this chapter.
