Dragon Quest 1&2 HD-2D Remake will be released as the first two games in the Erdrick Trilogy, following the release of DQ3 Remake in 2024. Though not much information has been revealed about this remake yet, its release date was confirmed earlier today in celebration of Dragon Quest Day. The Dragon Quest 1&2 HD-2D Remake will be released on October 30, 2025, which is just over a year since the initial announcement. While these games originally didn't come to North America until 1989 and 1990 (under the Dragon Warrior moniker), the games were released in 1986 and 1987, respectively, in Japan, so this is just in time for the 40th anniversary of the series next year.

The remake will be available on PC, PS4, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, though it will only be available as a game card on Switch 2. Changes The Remake Brings To Original Games

Graphics And Gameplay Are Updated

When the main menu loads up, you can choose from Dragon Quest 1 or Dragon Quest 2. Many updates in the remake involve quality of life. There will be auto-saving as well as updated graphics from the original releases. Objectives have also been updated along with the voice acting in the games. One new thing that has been added is a shortcut button for field abilities and skills. This allows you to assign skills to various buttons in the menu, making them more accessible.

Both remakes have expanded their maps, adding new areas to explore. In the original Dragon Quest 1, you were able to skip a lot of the game so you could get to the end, but that is not possible in the remake. What you were able to skip previously is now mandatory for you to complete to progress through the game. These previously minor aspects of the game have been integrated into the story and will add to the lore. The story itself will also be expanded from the original, which means you'll have more to do.

In Dragon Quest 1, the Dragonlord has risen, unleashing hordes of monsters on the land. As the descendant of Erdrick, it is up to you to defeat evil and rescue the world from it. This time around, you'll be able to fight multiple enemies at once. As for Dragon Quest 2, its story has been expanded as well, along with the map. With these expansions come more enemies and more quests to complete. You will have hidden places to find and voice acting was also added to the game, which adds immersion to the dynamic between the characters.

This will help you learn more about the characters along with the lore of the game. You can also enjoy the banter between the characters. Also, considering in the first trailer the Princess of Cannock goes from wearing a gown to wearing adventure attire could be a hint that she may your party as a new character in the game. She is also shown in the artwork of the game, meaning she will likely have an even more important role than just being a side character.

As the October 30 release date approaches, more information will likely be released, giving us more of a taste of what we should expect from the game. Currently, the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake looks to be an enhanced, more immersive version of the original installments of this trilogy.
