There are a ton of unique spells and sorceries in Elden Ring Nightreign, all of which are modeled after the familiar spells you may from the Elden Ring base game. Which sorceries you end up with on your weapon is going to be luck of the draw, obviously, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be on the lookout for some of the most effective spells available.

The obvious choice for a spellcaster is Nightreign's Recluse Nightfarer, though you can technically cast spells with any of the eight classes if you pick up a glintstone staff and have the FP to use it. Regardless of your playstyle, it's helpful to know which of the Nightreign sorceries shouldn't be ed over when you come across them during a playthrough. You can even test them out for yourself before entering the fray by practicing on some dummies in the Roundtable Hold Training Yard.

10 Magma Shot: Fire Lumps Of Exploding Magma

A Great Spell For Reviving Teammates

Magma Shot is a low FP spell that you'll come across pretty regularly during your expeditions into Limveld, but it's a tried-and-true method for creating an area of effect around downed teammates. It's ideal for reviving players because it leaves a pool of magma on the floor, causing damage in a small radius that can effectively help revive two players at a time. The magma will linger for a short time and is easy to spot if you're crawling for your life.

Certain staves in Nightreign will have a guaranteed spell that will always be available, such as the Gelmir Glintstone Staff and Magma Shot.

Magma Shot is guaranteed to be slotted on the Gelmir Glinstone Staff, alongside one additional random sorcery. This makes it an easy-to-find spell that is useful for multiple situations and effective against many enemies. There are certainly higher damage-dealing spells, but the fact that this is relatively common, has a low FP cost, and is quite versatile makes it one of the top spells.

9 Terra Magica: Buff Your Magic Strength

Great For Buffing Magic Damage With Spells & Weapons

Terra Magica is a sorcery buff that creates an academy sigil on the ground to enhance magic strength for everyone within the perimeter. It's one of the best magic buffs in the game that can be found pretty reliably, and there's even a possibility of casting it as a ive buff from Relic Rights or offhand weapons. This is an absolute essential for any Recluse playstyle, even for battle mage styles utilizing magic armaments.

The boost to Magic damage affects all glintstone sorceries and anything that deals magic damage. The fact that this spreads to teammates within the sigil radius makes it a handy spell as well, assuming other party use some form of magic attack, such as Ironeye's Enchanted Shot.

8 Rennala's Full Moon & Ranni's Dark Moon: High-Damage Moon Spells

Two Nearly Identical Spells From The Iconic NPCs

Both Rennala's Full Moon and Ranni's Dark Moon are nearly identical spells that deal massive damage and are among the most powerful in the game. Ranni's Dark Moon deals cold damage, costs slightly more FP, and can only be found randomly on glintstone staffs. Rennala's Full Moon is guaranteed to be slotted on the Carian Regal Scepter, one of the many legendary weapons in Nightreign, though it's extremely rare.

Elden Ring Nightreign: All Classes (Nightfarers), Ranked

There are eight distinct Nightfarer classes in Elden Ring Nightreign, each with their own unique skills and abilities perfect for many situations.

Full Moon and Dark Moon are the only Moon spells in the game, and are very rare compared to the other sorceries you'll come across. They deal massive damage, but there is one downside to using them, which is casting time, as it takes a second to charge up and launch the moons. Both spells share a nearly identical animation and take the same amount of time to cast, but Ranni's Dark Moon is slightly more powerful.

7 Zamor Ice Storm: Create A Freezing Tornado

Whip Up An Ice Storm To Damage Swarming Enemies

Zamor Ice Storm is one of the few Ice spells available in Nightreign, and it works very effectively when getting swarmed by hordes of enemies or when you're in a tight spot. The spell whips up a tornado of ice around you, dealing Frostbite buildup and Cold damage to nearby enemies within your immediate vicinity. It's also an excellent skill for helping up multiple teammates at the same time, assuming they are next to each other and you can manage to cast it before getting ambushed.

Zamor Ice Storm is among the most effective and efficient Cold spells, and can come in handy when you're in a pinch. It will typically knock enemies back or interrupt attacks, and it inflicts Frostbite damage, which can accumulate to deal a huge chunk of one-time damage and decrease damage resistance on the target for 20 seconds.

6 Glintstone Arc: Old Faithful Shouldn't Be Underestimated

The Most Common Spell In The Game Is Also One Of The Most Effective

Glinstone Arc is the most common spell you'll come across and is one of the basic spells that Recluse starts with, as well as being one of the most common spells slotted randomly on staves. However, don't let its commonality fool you, as this is easily the most useful and effective low-cost sorcery available. You're guaranteed to have access to this spell playing as Recluse, and it's ideal for groups of enemies that can otherwise be a nuisance to take down one at a time.

While there are quite a few single-target options for sorceries, the "wide-reaching" multi-target spells are more limited or much harder to get, such as Adula's Moonblade (see below). While it's not the most glamorous or complex sorcery, it's an old reliable that will likely be one of your most-used skills in the game.

5 Rykard's Rancor: Summon Exploding Spirits

Another Magma Sorcery That Deals Very High Damage

Rykard's Rancor is easily my favorite Magma spell in Nightreign, and it is also one of the highest damage-dealing spells in the game, especially against opponents weak to Fire or Magma damage. Rykard's Rancor fires off a series of searing spirits that explode after a brief pause, and it has only a moderate FP cost. Rykard's Rancor is somewhat hard to come by, but should definitely be picked up if you happen to come across a glintstone staff with it loaded.

New Elden Ring Nightreign Update Is Now Live With Dozens Of Fixes

A new update has been released for Elden Ring Nightreign, and it includes updates to solo play balancing, bug fixes, improvements, and a lot more.

The benefit of Rykard's Rancor is that the explosions happen along the entire projectile path after casting, so it will deal damage to anything on the way to its intended target. It will track on to your target and even sometimes encircle them, causing a swirl of explosions around them that each deal high fire damage. It's the best Magma Sorcery in the game, so be sure to snag it if you find a staff with it equipped.

4 Comet Azur: A Beam Of Starry Death

Hold Comet Azur As Long As You Have The FP To Do It

Comet Azur is an incredible sorcery that casts a powerful comet inside a beam of stars. This is one of the best sorceries because it can be held to sustain the beam for as long as you have the FP to do so, which can be absolutely devastating to all enemies in its path, not to mention the main target. If you've managed to track down Azur's Glintstone Staff, Comet Azur will always be slotted on this staff, and it's not one you want to up.

FP doesn't regenerate naturally in Nightreign, though there are many ways to refill it outside of visiting a Site of Grace, such as Recluse's skills, Starlight Shards, or ive effects from weapons.

This is an excellent sorcery for Nightlord fights, assuming you have buffed your FP considerably in the run up to the final encounter. It's also ideal for reviving teammates as you can cast an uninterrupted beam that quickly saves allies. It's also not as uncommon as some of the other sorceries of equal comparison, making it among the best in the game.

3 Adula's Moonblade: An Icy Projectile Slash

Slash A Summoned Moonblade & Fire Off An Arc Of Ice

Adula's Moonblade is a spell that summons an icy moonblade and slashes in front of you, followed up with an arced projectile of ice. This is the better option for this sort of wide-reaching attack and the ideal alternative to the Glinstone Arc. It costs considerably more FP than Glinstone Arc, but it also deals substantially more damage and will also deal cold damage to boot.

The spell can be cast in quick succession, and if you have the FP to it, you can wipe out tougher enemies very quickly. Adula's Moonblade isn't preloaded on any specific glintstone staff, so this one will be completely luck of the draw. However, if you find a staff with it loaded, you should consider approaching the rest of the run with Adula's Moonblade as a feature of your build.

2 Explosive Ghostflame: Destroy Enemies In Every Direction

Hit All Nearby Enemies With Powerful Ghostflame

Explosive Ghostflame is hands down the best AoE spell in Nightreign, dealing a huge explosion that hits all nearby enemies. It projects a line of Ghostflame on the ground in multiple directions, dealing damage to anything on these paths. The initial explosion can take out lower-level enemies that are swarming you, and you can also use this very effectively to revive downed allies.

Best Nightfarer For Solo Mode In Elden Ring Nightreign

Elden Ring Nightreign's solo expeditions are incredibly challenging, but I had the best luck with Revenant due to the Nightfarer's summons.

This spell does have a relatively high FP cost, but that's because it's one of the most powerful spells in the game. Ghostflame explosions can also possibly be loaded onto your characters through Relic Rites or ive effects, though the spell itself is easily the most effective form of the spell. Don't skip over the Explosive Ghostflame spell if you end up finding it on your next run through Limveld.

1 Stars of Ruin: Fire Twelve Shooting Stars

Shooting Stars Will Hone In On Enemies

One of the top sorceries in the game is Stars of Ruin, which summons 12 shooting star projectiles that will track down enemies and almost guarantee a hit with each star. This spell deals ridiculous damage when all 12 projectiles hit, and it's easily one of the best options for a spellcaster such as Recluse. This is my vote for the best single-target sorcery in Nightreign, as it is well worth the FP cost and can be a difference-maker in final battles against Nightlords.

"The best sorceries in Elden Ring Nightreign will largely depend on your playstyle preferences and your approach to gameplay."

Overall, the best sorceries in Elden Ring Nightreign will largely depend on your playstyle preferences and your approach to gameplay. Ultimately, you won't be able to plan ahead with these spells other than familiarizing yourself with how they work in the Training Yard ahead of your next run. If you come across a glintstone staff with any of these spells, I'd highly recommend you pick it up and give yourself an advantage in the fights to come.
