E3 2021 has come and gone without any additional Elder Scrolls 6 news, though Bethesda's sci-fi RPG Starfield did get a significant amount of focus during this year's presentation. With nearly a decade having ed since the release of Skyrim and at least a couple of years to wait until The Elder Scrolls 6 does come out, fans can do little but wonder what the next game could have in store.
Only a teaser trailer has been revealed for The Elder Scrolls 6 thus far, releasing in 2018 and containing little more than a panning shot of the game's landscape. While this did immediately rule out a few more obvious locations, such as Skyrim and Morrowind, it still left a wide window of possibilities open. Much speculation has followed the trailer's release, although development updates on Elder Scrolls 6 are likely a long way off, given the game is still in its design stage.
There are a few commonly discussed options for Elder Scrolls 6's location, two of the most prominent being High Rock and Hammerfell. Hammerfell, in particular, has seemingly been teased as a location by Bethesda several times since 2018. While both are likely candidates given what's known about their geography, plus the fact that players have yet to explore either region on current-gen consoles, there's another option that isn't brought up quite as frequently: the continent of Akavir.
What Elder Scrolls 6's Akavir Region Could Look Like
Little has been revealed about Akavir in the games proper, though discussions surrounding it can be found by reading the books scattered throughout the Elder Scrolls games. Mysterious Akavir is a good example of relevant reading material. What is known is that it's located to the east of Tamriel and serves as the homeland of several races that aren't playable in the Elder Scrolls series. Traces of Akaviri culture can also be seen in Skyrim, particularly at Sky Haven Temple, and players can collect Akaviri-related items such as the Ancient Dragonguard Burial Mask in The Elder Scrolls: Online. However, specifics of the continent's geography are vague at best. This means that it's entirely plausible that Elder Scrolls 6's trailer features a glimpse of Akavir's landscape.
An Elder Scrolls game set in Akavir would be a great opportunity to introduce new playable races and racial abilities. It could likewise provide plenty of exploration opportunities to both new players and longtime Elder Scrolls fans. While High Rock and Hammerfell have both been included in older games, such as Redguard and Daggerfall, the opportunity to visit Akavir would be a first for the franchise. In addition, it could help solve some of the deeper mysteries remaining in the lore of The Elder Scrolls series. As the Elder Scrolls 6's eventual release date approaches, it's probable that developers will reveal more hints regarding the game's location. For the time being, though, it's worth theorizing where exactly Bethesda plans to take players next.
