An adorable mod for has even been added to Elder Scrolls Online through DLC which has recently become free for all players.
Though it is certainly dwarfed by more modern Bethesda games like Skyrim and Fallout 4, the list of mods available for The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind is sprawling and diverse. Players have spent years adding their own unique pieces of content to the game, tweaking its difficulty, and enhancing the visuals, which most would likely consider dated by contemporary standards. The unique landscape of Morrowind is one that is filled with beautiful sights to behold, but also features some notably creepy and intimidating hostile NPCs such as skeletons, zombies, and dwarven automatons. These enemies can make short work of even the most skilled players, despite Morrowind's advanced magic system providing a wide range of useful and versatile offensive options.
Mudcrabs are another common creature that gamers will come across in Morrowind, and can be seen as intimidating by many, especially younger players. This was the case for the children of NexusMods NoNamesNotTaken (via Safx5000 on Reddit) who added the family cat to the game to keep their kids confident in the virtual space. The description of the mod includes a touching story of a real-life cat called Stripes, who was once a stray before ing NoNamesNotTaken's family and becoming attached to their hips. Because Stripes would always follow the family closely in real life, NoNamesNotTaken decided to mod him into Morrowind to make the game's mudcrabs a little less frightening to their kids.
Although there are Morrowind mods that make it prettier than Skyrim, it makes sense that young children might be afraid of certain areas of the game. Mudcrabs in particular are an unsettling sight, as they make unnatural, erratic movements and have a somewhat grotesque appearance. As such, this mod, which is now available for public use, will certainly be a useful tool for younger Morrowind fans.
It's a testament to Morrowind's iconic status and long-lasting appeal that players have continued to expand upon the base game with unique and fun mods. While many of the most popular mods for the game are a bit more serious or ambitious, cute, wholesome additions like this cat add-on can make The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind a more personal, charming experience.
