Anthony Mackie's new monster movie has continued a grim Rotten Tomatoes trend for the star. The Independent Spirit Award nominated actor debuted in the 2002 movie 8 Mile, which also starred Eminem and Mekhi Phifer. Since then, he has gone on to a wide variety of projects, though he is likely best known for playing Sam Wilson, also known as the Falcon and later Captain America, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This ongoing tenure in the franchise began with 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Other Anthony Mackie movies outside the MCU encom a wide variety of genres. This includes the comedies What's Your Number?, The Night Before, and Playing It Cool as well as the dramas Brother to Brother, Million Dollar Baby, Half Nelson, and Detroit. He has also taken on several major television roles in the 2020s, including starring in Altered Carbon, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Twisted Metal.

Elevation Has Continued Anthony Mackie's Rough 2020s Rotten Tomatoes Record

The 2024 Monster Movie Has Earned Mixed To Negative Reviews

Elevation reviews have earned the new Anthony Mackie monster movie the star's fourth Rotten Tomatoes splat since 2021. The negative reception for the movie, which is set in a world besieged by monsters who cannot climb above 8,000 feet, comes during a critical downturn for the star. Although he had his longest-ever streak of Fresh scores between 2016 and 2019, it was followed by four splats in a row, introducing an erratic new period that has seen him earn three Rotten scores in as many years ahead of Elevation's premiere. What The Elevation Rotten Tomatoes Score Means For Anthony Mackie

His Movies Could Continue The Cycle

Anthony Mackie looking concerned in a field in Elevation

Anthony Mackie's future roles could very well continue his current up-and-down Rotten Tomatoes cycle, as he is set to star in the Captain America: Brave New World and Electric State. While every Captain America movie has been Certified Fresh so far, Electric State is a Netflix movie directed by the Russo Brothers, whose most recent collaboration with the streamer, The Gray Man, earned a Rotten 45%. Unless both movies win over critics, he seems unlikely to start a new Fresh streak any time soon.
