The newest game from the EVE Online franchise is out, and it's not what fans were expecting. The new game is a free-to-play mobile game titled EVE Galaxy Conquest that launched on October 29. The game is meant to expand the world of EVE Online, C Games' massive, long-running sci-fi MMO, but it's being met with criticism and negative reviews, instead.

A release trailer has been revealed on the EVE Galaxy Conquest YouTube channel to an abysmal view count of under 10K in a week. In contrast, MMO Population reports that there are over 10.58 million s in the game, with an estimated 59K players per day over the past month. EVE fans are largely blasting the new mobile game and criticizing C Games for not taking their time to make a good companion game for their IP.

EVE Galaxy Conquest is a 4X game (explore, exploit, expand, and exterminate) that "combines resource management, diplomacy, and combat" and lets players engage in space battles. However, besides the name and setting, the game seems to have little of the depth that the core MMO is known for, resulting in some disappointed fans.

Although EVE Galaxy Conquest currently has a rating of 4.1 on the Google Play Store, the reviews section is full of scathing reviews ranging from performance issues to general disappointment that the game doesn't have more of what makes EVE special. Several reviews note that the game has very little to do with EVE besides the ship graphics and names, and is instead a reskin of games like Infinite Lagrange. Other reviews criticize the game for lacking complexity and ingenuity, bringing nothing new to the table.

Our Take: EVE Galaxy Conquest Is Neither For New Players Nor Existing Fans

The Game Misses The Mark For Either Audience

EVE Online has been online since 2003 and it's amassed a dedicated fanbase and a unique legacy. The game often makes headlines for having the largest PvP battles in MMO history. EVE players spend hours honing their skills and improving their ships in a game that has a notoriously steep learning curve and requires a large time commitment.

With all that in mind, the new mobile game doesn't seem to make sense as the next step for the company. The game lacks the complexity and depth that existing fans, but it also doesn't offer anything to new players that they can't get in another game. It seems like EVE Online developers forgot to consider their target audience when releasing Galaxy Conquest. A few reviews remain optimistic, though, stating that they're hopeful that the game will improve over time as it gets its footing.
