The Hulk is one of the strongest characters in the Marvel Universe, but the thing about him is that he’s not the only ‘Hulk’ in the Marvel Universe - far from it, in fact. Truth be told, there is no shortage of Hulks in the Marvel Universe, and each one is unique in their own special (and oftentimes horrific) ways.

Some of them are gamma mutates in Marvel Comics that shouldn’t be considered a ‘Hulk’ (like the Leader, the Abomination, or Rick Jones), but there are plenty of others who can firmly be placed in that category, and should be considered a Marvel Comics ‘Hulk’.

15 The Hulk

The Incredible Hulk #1 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

The Hulk with long hair growling in anger.

The first Hulk that should come to mind is the original one - the first gamma-powered alter-ego of Bruce Banner. This version of the Hulk is the main version that fans see the most regularly, and who has the most range. The prime Hulk is sometimes portrayed as having low intelligence (like in The Immortal Hulk) and other times with the intelligence of an average man (like in 2023's The Incredible Hulk series). But the one thing that's consistent is that this is the Hulk fans think of when they think of the Hulk.

14 Titan

Hulk #6 by Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley

Titan aka the Hulk's Hulk surging with dark energy and power.

When Bruce Banner loses control, he turns into the Hulk. But, what does the Hulk turn into when he loses control? Well, Marvel Comics answered that with this Hulk-character: Titan. Titan is the Hulk's Hulk, a dark entity whose very essence spreads chaos and destruction. While the Hulk is, indeed, a bringer of destruction, he is also a heroic character who can inspire hope in others. That cannot be said for Titan, who is a truly horrific byproduct of the gamma-irradiated curse plaguing both Bruce Banner and the Hulk.

13 Kluh

Avengers & X-Men: AXIS #4 by Rick Remender and Leinil Francis Yu

When Red Skull hijacked the powers of Charles Xavier (by stealing the brain from his corpse) and became Red Onslaught, he used his god-tier power to flip the personal moralities of everyone on Earth. This gave life to Kluh, the evil version of the Hulk who was corrupted by Red Onslaught's immense power. As Kluh, the Hulk unleashed the full might of his terrifying strength without holding back, and even enjoyed the pain and chaos he brought.

12 The Green Scar

Planet Hulk by Greg Pak and Carlo Pagulayan

The Green Scar aka Hulk from World War Hulk with gladiator armor.

The Green Scar is the Hulk alter ego that was created when the Hulk was banished off-world during the Planet Hulk storyline after crash-landing on the planet Sakaar. This Hulk is intelligent, capable of speaking in full sentences, and living as a normal man, and he's also recognizable by the gladiator-like armor he wears, which visually differentiates the Green Scar from other Hulk personas. World War Hulk was the last time the Green Scar was utilized to the fullest extent, but he remained a personality residing within the fractured psyche of Bruce Banner for many years afterward.

11 Devil Hulk

The Incredible Hulk Vol. 2 #13 by Paul Jenkins, Ron Garney, and Sal Buscema

The snake-like Devil Hulk sticking his tongue out.

While not the main version of the Hulk fans think of when considering the many Hulks in Marvel Comics, Devil Hulk is technically the first 'Hulk' that Bruce Banner's mind created. As a child, Bruce was verbally, emotionally, and physically abused by his father. In response, Bruce's mind created a snake-like monster that would always protect him. When Bruce Banner got blasted by gamma radiation, Devil Hulk (which only ever existed in his mind) became real, taking its place among the other Hulks in Bruce's head.

While Devil Hulk always has Bruce's best interests at heart, the way he protects Bruce is cruel and violent against those he views as a threat - a dark reflection of the abuse Bruce suffered as a child.

10 Guilt Hulk

The Incredible Hulk #267 by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema

Brian Banner aka Guilt Hulk as a snake-like brute holding an innocent woman in his hands.

Speaking of Bruce Banner's father, Brian Banner is also a 'Hulk' in the Marvel Universe, though the darkest one any fan could imagine. Brian Banner would become the Guilt Hulk, which is even more serpent-like than Devil Hulk, and with nothing but cruelty and evil in his heart. Initially, Guilt Hulk only existed as a memory; basically just how Bruce Banner saw his dad as a child. However, Guilt Hulk would be made real in Chaos War, and actually get the chance to fight Hulk one-on-one.

I Can't Believe the Hulk's Best Villain Gets No Love From Marvel

The Hulk has a bunch of notable and dangerous villains in Marvel Comics, but his all-time best one is woefully underutilized - and I can't believe it.

1

Since then, Brian Banner has returned in many different forms, including in The Immortal Hulk and 2021's Hulk series, though he doesn't always take the form of Guilt Hulk.

9 Maestro

Future Imperfect by Peter David and George Pérez

Maestro aka the evil Hulk of the future.

Maestro is a version of the Hulk from an alternate future where the world fell into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Every hero was killed, most villains didn't survive, and the Hulk rose to power as the ruler of the world - changing his name to Maestro as he ascended the throne. Despite being a hero at first, power corrupted Maestro, turning him into a cruel dictator who even tried to murder his past self during the Future Imperfect storyline - and came very close to succeeding.

8 Enkidu

The Incredible Hulk #15 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Danny Earls

The Enkidu aka the first Hulk with massive horns on his head.

Many fans might think that Bruce Banner is the original Hulk in the Marvel Universe, but they'd be wrong. In 2023's The Incredible Hulk series, it's revealed that the One Below All (the otherworldly source of the Hulk's power) has been taking avatars since the dawn of human civilization, and the first was named Enkidu. Enkidu battled the ancient monsters that effectively ruled over ancient humans, which is a conflict the Hulk is still fighting to this day.

7 She-Hulk

The Savage She-Hulk #1 by Stan Lee and John Buscema

Marvel Comics' She-Hulk flexing her biceps.

Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk is Bruce Banner's cousin who became a Hulk after Bruce gave her some of his blood during an emergency blood transfusion that was necessary to save her life. Just like her cousin, Jen has the ability to 'Hulk-Out', turning into a super-strong, green brute. However, unlike her cousin, Jen doesn't have multiple personalities as a result of her gamma-mutation. Even as She-Hulk, Jen is still always Jen.

6 Harpy (Red Harpy)

The Incredible Hulk Vol. 2 #168 by Steve Englehart and Herb Trimpe

Hulk's Betty Ross in her Red Harpy form.

Betty Ross aka Harpy became the winged gamma-mutate after M.O.D.O.K. exposed Betty to gamma radiation, mutating her into something strong enough to challenge the Hulk himself. As the years went on, Betty's Harpy form changed a few times. She started out as a green-winged creature before becoming something more akin to a 'Red She-Hulk', until finally settling on a gamma-mutated form that she still transforms into to this day: Red Harpy.
