Warning: Spoilers for the Evil series finale

Summary

  • Robert and Michelle King express interest in a potential Evil spinoff focused on Sister Andrea.
  • Sister Andrea, played by Andrea Martin, became a standout character.
  • The King duo highlights the character's strong presence, hinting at the spinoff's potential success.

Evil's series finale signed off with an episode that is only generally conclusive. David (Mike Colter) and Kristen (Katja Herbers) restarted their Assessor program in Rome, while Ben (Aasif Mandvi) stayed behind for his high-paying job. Leland (Michael Emerson) and Sister Andrea, for their part, headed off to a silent retreat for nuns.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Kings were asked about the potential of continuing Evil's story via a spinoff focused on Sister Andrea. The co-creators and married duo gave a thumbs up to the idea, with Robert King explaining how the spinoff would echo how the character of Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) spun off from The Good Wife and The Good Fight, which the Kings also created, after becoming a breakout character. Another recurring character, Fenna (Alexandra Socha), is also mentioned. Read their responses below:

Robert King: That is the one that seems like it pops in your mind, just the way Elsbeth popped in our mind. Elsbeth was just an obvious character [to spin off], and Sister Andrea is that way. She’s in this silent retreat with Fenna. We love that actress, Alexandra Socha, who plays Fenna. Here’s the thing: Ideas that seem like no-brainers to us, our real hurdles are with the people with money. But horror is not going away. It’s very profitable. So, would be the one for me.

Are you board with that, Michelle?

Michelle King: I am. We just now need to produce it and write it.

How Andrea Martin's Sister Andrea Became A Standout Character

Her Scenes In Evil Season 4 Were Some Of The Best

Sister Andrea ed Evil's cast of characters in season 2, quickly becoming a thorn in Leland Townsend's side. She has had a consistent thread since her arrival, as the nun faces sexism and being diminished by the Chruch. But even with only a few episodes remaining, Evil season 4 did a lot to make Sister Andrea the show's unsung hero.

Although she does have a superpower of sorts, the ability to see and thus kill demons, with the scenes typically positioned as some of the show's lighter moments, her true power may be her unwavering faith. Everyone on Evil has serious doubts about the afterlife and their calling, even David. But in moments that are breathtaking, cutting through the show's intentionally goofy humor and attempts to unsettle, Sister Andrea speaks of belief and of God in a way that is striking and moving.

After Evil Season 4, This Spinoff Idea Is The Best Way To Continue The Story

After the cancelation of the Paramount+ show Evil, the best way forward would be a spinoff series centering on the demon-hunting nun, Sister Andrea.

This is especially apparent in the penultimate episode, as an exceptional conversation unfolds between the nun and Father Frank Ignatius (played by Wallace Shawn). That strength may be enough to sustain a spinoff, and whether a spinoff involving Fenna, from Evil season 2's silent episode, could also come to fruition, remains to be seen. But it's not hard to see why Sister Andrea, bolstered by Martin's excellent performance, has become such a fan-favorite.
