Chris Hemsworth may have been a successful working actor before taking on the role of Thor in the MCU, but it's this comic book character that propelled him to superstardom. He's now appeared in four solo MCU movies, the most recent being Thor: Love and Thunder, and it's entirely possible that he'll appear in future team-up films. Outside of his time in the MCU, though, Hemsworth has been proving that he can do more than just superhero projects.

Hemsworth most recently appeared in George Miller's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024), a film that earned positive reviews, particularly for his surprising performance as Dementus. Over the last few years, he's also become a major star over at Netflix, appearing in Extraction (2020) and Spiderhead (2022), as well as a thrilling action sequel that allowed him to show off his action hero chops like never before.

Extraction 2 builds on its predecessor in of its incredible action sequences, and here is every one of them ranked by their impressive feats.

In a recent video for Insider, retired Green Beret David Harris analyzes Rake's compound assault from the end of Extraction 2, revealing that the film's portrayal of a grenade launcher is not entirely accurate. Though Harris its to enjoying the film, he explains that the grenade launcher rounds, which he reveals are 40 mike-mike rounds, wouldn't be as explosive in real life. One thing Extraction 2 gets right, however, is Hemsworth's expert handling of an assault rifle. Check out Harris' analysis of the film's ending sequence below, as well as his score for the movie out of 10:

So I’ve used a 40 mike-mike grenade launcher with the mark 19 and the mark 47, which are basically machine guns but they’re designed for 40 mike-mike grenades. I’ve used those on top of trucks a lot. And those are made because the area fire weapons in mountains you want to cover more ground.

It’s not designed to have that kind of impact on explosion. It’s 40 mike-mike, it’s not a huge round. Like you would need a bigger round, like you’re talking a Gustaf AT round that’s carrying way more punch that would make it blow up. Or you gotta hit that thing with like 12 rounds straight of 40 mike-mike.

I’ve seen guys use them for breaking . You get shot at and you’re trying to get away, so actually they use that exact kind of grenade launcher, a six-shooter, that you actually crank it, and he went and shot six rounds and took off so he could get some kind of cover fire down.

40 mike-mike is not really designed to be used up close but [Hemsworth] didn’t just point shoot it at people. When it was time for that he grabbed his rifle. His weapon manipulation was very smooth, very fluid. The reload of the weapon system, he was on point with.

I rate it a six [out of 10]. I don’t think the explosion would have did that to the plane like unless it was like we talked about earlier, secondary explosion. I like the movie though.

What Extraction 2's Accuracy Score Means For The Movie

The Chris Hemsworth Action Movie Doesn't Have To Be Realistic

Extraction 2 reviews were generally positive from critics, not because the movie is realistic, but because it features exciting action sequences. As with John Wick, which presents a heightened reality where Keanu Reeves' titular assassin kills several hundred people over the course of the franchise, the Extraction movies stretch reality in order to show audiences thrilling action. The film currently enjoys an 80% critics score and 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and it was also a viewership hit, suggesting this approach worked.

Extraction 3 is confirmed to be in development following the second film's success.

Ultimately, a lackluster accuracy score isn't going to hurt Extraction 2, as audiences likely aren't going into the film expecting it to be realistic anyway. Plus, as Harris said, he enjoys the movie, despite its lack of realism. Extraction 2 remains a thrilling Netflix action movie, and a great showcase for Hemsworth's continued action hero persona.
