One of the biggest questions regarding Earth’s Mightiest Heroes left by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Very little is known about what happened to the team itself, and that’s something that can change when Marvel’s second Disney+ series begins.

The battle with Thanos (Josh Brolin) rocked the Avengers roster in a big way. Because of the Mad Titan and his crusade for the Infinity Stones, the team lost Vision (Paul Bettany), Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson), Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), and Captain America (Chris Evans), who went back to the past. However, several Avengers survived and will continue to get adventures in the MCU. Among them are Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Smart Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and War Machine (Don Cheadle). But, it’s hard to say if any of them are still working together.

Since Endgame released in April 2019, the status of the Avengers in the MCU has gone unconfirmed for almost two years. Of course, a lot of that has to do with the coronavirus pandemic, but it’s also important to keep in mind that though Endgame offered closure for numerous characters, it didn’t really address what would come next for the team, or if they even still exist at this point. Did what was left of the Avengers disband with the retirement of WandaVision, despite one of its main being the focus of the show. That’s why Marvel needs to answer this question in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Avengers team gathered together in Endgame

The Disney+ series provides Marvel with a perfect opportunity to clear this up. The addition of a new Captain America would certainly make this conversation relevant. When Wyatt Russell’s John Walker aka U.S. Agent suits up as the new Sentinel of Liberty, the government could discuss the potential of him ing the team and taking Steve’s place on the lineup. Or, the team could be mentioned directly by Falcon or War Machine, the latter of which being a character confirmed to appear at some point in the series ahead of the release of his own show, Armor Wars.

One reason why there may not be an Avengers team is related to the absence of key leadership figures. Of the six founding , only Hulk could be around. Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) has retired, so while he could re later, he’s unavailable for the time being. Plus, if they do still exist, they would be operating with a depleted roster (unless they’ve added new after Endgame). All things considered, it seems likely that the Avengers are currently defunct in the MCU. But if that’s true, it’s possible that with all the new Avengers heroes ing the MCU in Phase 4, it won’t be long before a new team can be put together, whether it be on the big screen or on Disney+.
