one of Bethesda's highest-rated games, but, after a few playthroughs, the narrative begins to wear a bit thin. Thankfully, there are a lot of quest mods available that can extend the story, add new plots to the game, or affect how it plays out in some truly creative ways.
The goal of these mods is to elongate and expand the Fallout 4 experience by offering more than just simple tasks to accomplish. Gamers should feel like they're part of something bigger, part of an adventure that capitalizes on the wasteland story of Fallout 4 in a sensible and probable manner.
The Commonwealth Responders - A Fallout 4 Quest Mod
Fallout 76 featured the Responders, a group dedicated to helping humanity survive following the Great War. These individuals helped teach basic survival skills, acted as makeshift law and order brigades, and fought against humans who succumbed to a ravenous disease known as the Scorch Plague.
This mod reintroduces the Responders into Fallout 4 with a quest-based adventure that allows players to try and rebuild the unit from scratch. The mod features 28 quests, 27 individual outfits, 30 buildable items, and 52 craftable signs while also expanding the Jamaica Plain area for players to build in.
The Machine And Her
Quest mods in Fallout 4 vary in approach and quality, but this one is definitely worth checking out. It's a DLC-sized quest with a modest 4-5 hours of total gameplay. It also features a fully voiced companion, a new radio station to tune into, and a branching story based on individual choices.
It begins when the player meets a character named Kit in the Symphony Station, who must be regularly conversed with in order to ascertain her thoughts and feelings. Trust is a major component of how the player interacts with Kit and drives the narrative forward, which is a switch-up from Fallout 4's typical dialogue options.
America Rising - A Tale Of The Enclave
This quest mod activates when players hit level 5, though it is recommended for level 10 characters and above. The story is basic Fallout with a twist, and it centers around a group of people trying to bring America from the dead, one building block at a time.
The mod itself offers a full storyline with 1,000+ lines of voiced dialogue, a new radio station, two companions, and full integration with Fallout 4's baseline story. It may be a little short at around 2 hours of play, but many of the quests are repeatable, and it's one more option to elongate the play experience with more content.
Chaotic Sun
This mod takes place on a mysterious island intended for combat and exploration. It takes its cues from many of Skyrim's mods that add new locations to the game and acts as an engaging alternative to the main questline. Players will square off against a host of enemies including a Synth Army, as well as powerful Temple Knights.
The mod also features more armor and weapon options, vending machines that sell ammo, weapons, and other items, and a neat little gadget called a Karma Printer. This device can summon Wraiths that can fight alongside the player or special craftable items.
Fourville
"Four" is the common thread in this particular quest mod which adds an entirely new town to the Commonwealth. It consists of 10 main quests, 41 side quests, and plenty of extras to discover. The mod boasts 8-10 hours of total gameplay time, which is definitely far beyond the average.
There's no fully-fledged sequential story to follow, but rather a series of quests with individual initiatives that form a loose narrative. It includes a new companion, a new batch of collectible bobbleheads, and 5,000 lines of recorded dialogue across an astonishing 70 voice actors. It's definitely a must-play for hardcore Fallout fans.
The Train
The Train is the first Fallout 4 mod to feature a Commonwealth settlement built onto a fully moving train, and that alone is worth the work of ing and installing the mod.
Not only does the mod give players a fun fast travel alternative between different locations in the Commonwealth, but it also sports a pretty interesting main questline. The train itself can even be customized in of cars, styles, and controls. The amount of freshness this quest mod brings to Fallout 4 cannot be overstated.
Vault 1080
Fans of horror will enjoy this quest mod which introduces an entirely new vault in the northern region of the Commonwealth. The vault itself is built underneath the decrepit ruins of an old church near a marsh, and the descent inside is quite nerve-wracking.
There's a bit of a story to be had inside the vault, as well. It may not be the longest or most detailed quest mod in the game, but it's another area worth exploring, and it's done with a particular twist that makes terror a main thematic element.
Outcasts And Remnants - Quest Mod Plus
Outcasts and Remnants is an interesting quest mod, specifically because it integrates well with many other quest mods out there, including the illustrious Project Valkyrie. On its own, the mod offers around 20 hours of gameplay, which is definitely a major step up from many of its peers.
The mod has a main story that starts out at the B.O.G. bunker south of Oberland Station. It is recommended that gamers begin this quest after confronting Kellogg in the "Reunions" mission. This will auto-start the first mission of Outcasts and Remnants, for a little more immersion and sequencing.
Fusion City Rising - Quest Mod Plus
Fusion City Rising introduces an entirely new underground city into Fallout 4 which is larger than Diamond City and features everything from a mall to a hotel, a university, and even a laundromat. The mod offers 10-20 hours of gameplay, with a main quest and multiple side quests thrown in for good measure.
Other features include a brand new explorable vault, three new companions, new enemy factions to fight, and a story connection to Fallout 3 via a number of information terminals. It's recommended that players take their time to read these terminals in order to get the full effect.
Project Valkyrie
Project Valkyrie is, without a doubt, one of Fallout 4's most ambitious quest mods to date. Not only does it attempt to one-up Bethesda's own DLC quest content, but it actually succeeds in many areas. Project Valkyrie isn't just a straightforward quest mod; it's an adventure with multiple endings depending on how it is played.
The mod consists of 20 quests that directly affect Fallout 4's main storyline. It's essentially an add-on to the main game that greatly expands how the story plays out. Players who have finished Fallout 4 a few times might be shocked to discover all of the new content that Project Valkyrie brings to the table.
