Fallout 76 Steel Reign, the 28th update and seventh major DLC in the Fallout series, launched July 7. The story is a part two conclusion to Fallout 76 Steel Dawn, following the Brotherhood of steel in their quest to reclaim a stake in the Appalachian mountains. It's free to , but only players who have reached level 20 and completed the main quest in Fallout 76 Steel Dawn will be able to start Fallout 76 Steel Reign.
Players will be able to pick up right where the narrative left off in this update. The fort has also been protected from Fallout 76's super mutants. Paladin Rahmani has destroyed the transmitter connecting the Brotherhood of Steel to their counterparts in California, solidifying the rift between the Paladin and Knight Shin. Fallout 76 Steel Reign starts with the quest "A Knights Penance," indicating the narrative will pick up with Knight Shin standing down to Paladin Rahmani in some way.
Outside of the story, Fallout 76 Steel Reign adds gameplay elements for players to enjoy as detailed by Bethesda. This includes a new crafting system, legendary upgrades, and a handful of bug fixes and balance adjustments (mostly around legendary item attributes) to improve the quality of the game. There is also an additional storyline for players to follow in the new Fallout 76 season, allowing for even more exploration in the Fallout universe.
Everything Fallout 76 Steel Reign Adds
In the new update, Fallout is introducing a legendary crafting system, leveling up a player's ability to improve their gear (including with Legendary Power Armor). Fallout 76 Steel Reign uses legendary cores and modules to enable legendary crafting at weapon and armor workbenches. Through these items, players can upgrade, downgrade, and re-roll legendary attributes to make items that are the best fit for their playstyle.
A caravan merchant, Minerva is a new addition to the world of Fallout 76 Steel Reign. She will trade items and supplies in exchange for gold bullion, the in-game currency, in addition to offering Daily Ops. Every week from Monday to Wednesday is the Minerva's Emporium event, where everything is regular cost, while Thursdays to Mondays will be her Big Sale event. Players can find Minerva in either Fort Atlas, Foundation, or The Crater settlements.
The newest Fallout 76 season follows K.D. Inkwell in her journey to the 42nd century. She finds herself in a strange new world ruled by the M.I.N.D. Organization, a collective of dolphin-hybrid humans set on pulling the remains of humanity into their collective. There are 100 ranks in the season for players to work through, replete with fresh challenges and rewards. Fallout 76 Steel Reign players can continue to level up after 100 ranks, as Season 5 introduces unlimited rank-ups to the franchise, but XP challenges and corresponding rewards are capped at rank 100.
There's been an increase on several fronts to the in-game Fallout 76 currency cap. Players can now carry up to 40,000 caps, 10,000 gold bullions, and 5,000 scrips. Additionally, the daily vendor limit is now 400 gold bullions and 300 scrips. Meat Week, set to return Aug. 17-23, has added new rewards including plans for a pepper shaker, grocery cart grill, fruit wreath, and fruit bowl. Fallout 76 Steel Reign also unlocks additional C.A.M.P. slots (three total) and S.P.E.C.I.A.L. loadouts (13 total) from the atomic shop.
